surffisher (194), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Mar 29, 2008 Batch 7 (Feb. 08) bomber bottle. Pours slightly hazy orange-amber with a big, frothy, sticky, and long-lasting cream-colored head. Aroma is massive grapefruit and resin, but there are some sweet malts back there too. Flavor is similarly dominated by gooey hops but again with a nice sweet malt base. Finishes very dry; no surprise there. Palate is medium to medium-full, sticky and smooth. Almost no alcohol except for slight warming despite the high ABV. Great DIPA for hopheads - one of the best. carboloader (318), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 27, 2008 Hops and fruit extraordinairy! A blast of pine trees and fruity malts. Quite a tasty concoction. Alcohol is strong but well hidden among the bouquet and malts. Heck of strong kick. A big beer with all the typical Avery properties. HonkeyBra (1278), Lemont, Illinois, USA Mar 27, 2008 Updated: Apr 10, 2008Bomber bottled Feb 08. Woah. You’ve gotta try it. Pours a copper with an off-white head. Aroma is hops, flowers, very intense hops, malt, and more hops. Taste is citrus, pine, spice with a nice supporting malt backbone. It’s big, it’s tasty, and after you finish the bottle, you’ll feel it. Definitely a great beer. Senormac (14), Springfield, Oregon, USA Mar 27, 2008 22 oz. bottle.....I really like this beer. Has a very nice hop aroma and pours a nice deep orange. Smells of citrus and hops. Nice off white head that slowly fades. Taste is flavorful but not overpowering.....not bitter....and not too sweet. Hop hits your nose before beer hits your tonge. Almost NO bitter aftertaste...which I like. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Mar 26, 2008 Poured from a bomber. Poured a clear copper color with a thick, rocky off-white that left nice lacing. Splendid aroma of citrus, spicy pine, and an earthy hop character. Sweet, spicy malt entry with a hint of caramel leads into a nice piny hop hit with more spice and some citrus undertones leads into a lightly bitter, earthy finish. Smooth with some hop bite, but was hoping for a bit more. Still a very nice IIPA. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Mar 24, 2008 22oz bottle. Its good, but definitely not worth the $7.49 I paid. Pours a hazy orange color with a somewhat creamy off-white head that fades relatively quick and leaves some lace. Smells caramelly and citrusy. Tastes malty sweet right up front. The hop bitterness starts in the middle, and then a sweet floral hop flavor kicks in towards the finish. Lots of different citrus flavors in there and a little pepper, as someone said earlier. Maybe, just maybe, medium body. Nice carbonation. Madsnp (611), Odense C, Denmark Mar 23, 2008 Bottle. Slight hazy amber coloured with an off white small head. Aroma is caramel, malty, grapefruit, pineaple with pepper, some pine and some lemons. Flavour is sweet with notes of caramel and nuts but balanced out by a massive use of hops. A big beer in a big bottle. milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Mar 23, 2008 Gorgeous coloring...deep tones of amber with a slight haze and small white head. Aroma has a very complex hop boquet.....pine, citrus, floral, earthy and tangy....it takes several minutes to take it all in. Flavor is quite powerful......an explosion of hops and malt. The hop presence is very tangy and potent.....citrus (take your pick), piney, floral and a bit of spice wrapped into one. Malt is there, although not in any great capacity, but in this case the beer isn’t overly bitter. Some sweet undertones, but this beer is all about the hops. Definitly one of the best imperial/double IPAs I’ve had. Would certainly get this beer again.
