Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Mar 10, 2008 Sept. 2007 - Some beers have a hop profile that is reminiscent of grapefruit. Reviews often mention grapefruit. This beer REALLY tastes like grapefruit...pink, really ripe and juicy grapefruit. Anyway, deep amber pour with moderate head and lacing, which was surprising for the high abv. A little on the sweet side, but really smooth. Pretty typical for style, even if it tastes a little more like grapefruit than most. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Mar 10, 2008 Fresh bottle pours slightly hazed red amber with a nice sticky head, decent lace. The aroma is serious resinous hops, pine forest on a fresh spring day, that amber color sticky stuff on the bark of the pine tree, Ruby Red Rio Star Texas Red Grapefruit (in season), ganja, and malt fighting for equality. The flavor is very sweet at first, but then the hops start to perform their wondrous magic and the Maharaja begins to balance the soul. The palate is IIIIPA super rich. Yeah, this is big. The alcohol is so well hidden by the pine. Overall, this is the Avery beer for me. Their best effort IMHO (other than those other Avery beers I rated higher)... masonjer (560), Holt, Michigan, USA Mar 10, 2008 Somehow, I haven’t tried this one yet. Even thought this is available where I live, my buddy picked one up that was brewed in Feb. 08. Doesn’t get much fresher than that. Smell was wonderful. Big citrus and pine, inviting me to take a taste. Taste was big citrus as well, with virtually no trace of alcohol. It finished quite dry on the finish, which didn’t leave a lasting citrus taste. But this was big, drinkable and delicious. BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Apr 5, 2008Thick beige head, ruby red amber . Minimal lacing. Sweet floral aroma of taffy, hops, and.. weed, yeah. Sweet floral hops, not very syrupy. Carbonated kick at the end, alcohol barely present on the tail end. Notes of sweet candy malt in the flavor. Really good beer, so enjoyable. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 9, 2008 22 oz. bottle - pours clear and dark orange; big foaming white head and some lacing; all pine cones on the aromas; flavors are too sweet at first but they start to even out with the bitterness; slight malty finish and medium body; pretty tasty marzone (1), USA does not count Mar 7, 2008 One of my favorites. Incredible nose of pink grapefruit with a great balance of hops and malted barley. GMCC2181 (846), Bear, Delaware, USA Mar 5, 2008 Bottle from lb4lb: Nice amber color, small white head. Smell is citrus, pine and fruity. Taste is citrus and pine with an after taste of fruity characteristics. Smooth but has a nice thickness to it. There is no trace of alcohol at all. Good brew thanks deniz! zeke626 (301), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 3, 2008 On tap at Buster’s. Tulip glass, pours a cloudy, burnt orange body with a thin, white head. Aroma consists of passion fruit and fruit punch; smells very tasty. Strong grapefruit flavor with some hops, pine, and grass. Soft, slightly heavy mouthfeel. Bitter, red grapefruit aftertaste. Hard to believe that this beer is 10.5%+ ABV. Very pleasant to drink and refreshing.
