lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 29, 2008 Pours a rich semi cloudy amber color in a snifter with a big lasting, dense offwhite head. Looks really nice.
Smell is piney and fruity, and intensely hopped with notes of fresh sweet pineapple as well.
Taste is equally as intense with loads of hops. Bitter pine flavor with a lot of pink grapefruit and bitter rind in the finish. A touch astringent at times, but almost seems to mellow a bit as it warms. Some tea flavors at moments, and an appropriate amount of sweet fruity malt to balance just enough. Quite drinkable, and a really good all around DIPA that hides the alcohol very well for over 10%. Great beer that I’d like to try again for sure. blutt59 (2045), Dallas, Texas, USA Feb 28, 2008 22 ozer, sweet white head that collapses into a small wispy finish, very grapefruit and citrus nose that tastes like pineapple upside down cake, really like this mmmbeer (740), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 28, 2008 Pint bottle (Batch 7) poured into tulip- poured moderately turbid hazy faded burnt orange, white ring around the glass for a head, high-medium carbonation, HEAVY aroma of grassy and floral hops- appealing from across the room! Hits the mouth with a medium body, the first taste reveals almost a sweet malt taste, but then the hops take over, grabbing you below the belt, and making you question your manhood. Finish slowly fades away, alcohol is an undertone, and begging for another sip. If you haven’t had it yet, sucks to be you. KimJohansen (6678), Copenhagen V, Denmark Feb 24, 2008 Hazy amber with large off white head. Sweet hoppy aroma with notes of grapefruit and loads of hops. Sweet flavor with grapefruit, caramel and again huge amound of hops. Ends with powerful bitterness. Lovely! garretjax (103), Colorado, USA Feb 23, 2008 Updated: Apr 13, 2008Batch 7 Feb ’08 Amber copper color followed by a fluffy off white head. Very floral hoppy aroma like a ripe grapefruit, almost imitating a perfume. Great structured body and nice carbonation. Balanced hop bitterness equaled beautifully by the sweetness of the alcohol. Crisp lingering finish.
Have enjoyed since batch 2, but with the addition of the new boiler. The ’07, ’08 batches have been exceptional! markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Feb 22, 2008 This is the best IPA available in Florida after 90 Minute IPA. This is very red-grapefruity and it bites, but finishes smooth- the mark of a good IPA. VERY drinkable. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 22, 2008 Bottle from Capones. Reddish/brown pour(hazy) With a bitter hoppy citrus aroma. The taste was caramel malts with hoppy balance. IT WAS PRETTY GOOD. rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 21, 2008 Pours a hazy reddish brown with a nice soapy head. I can smell the citrus and hops during the pour, and when you get up close you can even smell pineapple or some other fruity notes. Tastes of malt, a tinge of fruit, a hint of sweetness..........then you get some hop bitterness that combines with the previously mentioned sweetness that balances this one out very well.
I also have to say that it also hides the alcohol very well and could very well creep up on you if you’re not careful.
