illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 30, 2008 Pours a ruddy orange into my snifter. 1 finger white head.
Aroma is of freshly cut pineapples. Some tangerine tanginess too.
Taste is rindy citrus with an herbal hop finish. A nice grainy caramel maltiness is subdued but appreciable. Nice terminal bitterness.
Carbonation is nice and despite the richness in body, the finish is bone dry. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Jan 28, 2008 Pours a rich ruby tone with luxurious, intricate granny lacing wrapping around the entire glass. Nose is pine and fir-forward. Also resinous and similar to a heavily oaked chardonnay. Mouthfeel is silky, soft and slides down the throat swiftly. It’s an optimal palate for an IIPA, making this one dangerously drinkable. The flavors are elegant, refined, and not a predictable hop assault. Rather, this one is full of character and dignity. Alcohol is detectable but well-integrated and the finish whispers whiskey. Overall, this is one of the finer IPAs or IIPAs I’ve had in a while. Quaffable, good sustenance. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2008 Deep golden/burnt orange in color the beer poured a tight head that dissipated. The nose was filled with grapefruit, pine, Rouquefert cheese and just a bit of caramel malt on the end. In the mouth the hops showed through again but were not overly bitter or dry as they were well balanced with malt. The beer was wonderfully smooth with rich texture with good weight without "heaviness". I am surprised this measures 102 IBU’s as it does not show that bitter. Overall, this is very well balanced with a wonderful texture and extremely drinkable. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Jan 17, 2008 Avery The Maharaja Imperial India Pale Ale is a hazy red-orange ale with a bubbly, dense, off-white head. The aroma is huge, spicy, grassy, sweet, malty and boozy. It smells like a strong ale. It is medium-full bodied and quite slick. The finish is dry and a little acidic. The bitterness is heavy, but not sharp. It seems like more flavor comes from the malt than from the hops. There is a long, bitter aftertaste, after the sweetness shows its face. It’s a bit bottom-heavy for my taste. Very boozy. This tastes more like an American strong ale to me. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jan 14, 2008 Wow!! Amazing double IPA!! Nice full head, with a sweet aroma. The taste is a full blast of hops and malts that take your breath away! Love it! Collint (452), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jan 14, 2008 Bottle, thanks TikiE. Starting off, this beer poures a thin frothy head with excellent lacing. Aroma of hops and grapefruit. Taste like citrus and bitterness. This beer can be found any time of the year at my local gas station, i cunt believe it.
