Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

Not quite what I was expecting, but still good. A vry malty beer, which tends to dominate the hops a little too much. Still hoppy, but not overly so. Quite warm, considering the alcohol. A sipping DIPA.

Ok I have grown to love Imperial Stouts and have now discovered IPAs. This one is great, nice copper reddish, light of white thin head, bitter hops with dry finish. My only negative is I taste a tad of alcohol (i hear puss in my subconscience) on the front end. Still say Founders Cent is best for the buck (Avery aint cheap)

Pouring at one of the distributors booths at BCTC. Pours a hazy amber brown with a thin white head. Caramel and spice on the nose, and hoppy, but not as much as I’d have anticipated. Flavor is nice, with some nice caramel malt holding up before the big bitter grapefruit finish.

Wonderful burnt amber color, sweet smell. Not as bitter as would be expected for such high abv. Hides the alcohol really well.

22 oz bottle served in a tulip glass. Pour is a hazy, deep orange with a thick layer of white head. Nose is orange, citrus, hops, pine, and a florally perfume. Taste is citrus, hops, spices, and perfume that finishes wet and bitter. This isn’t the best IPA I’ve had, the spices are a bit too much for me, but it is very good and quite drinkable for a 10.5% ABV!
