CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Dec 15, 2007 22 oz. Bottle. I thought I knew what hops tasted like til now. Pours Perfect amber with white head. Perfect hoppy floral aroma. Taste is strictly of hops. Tastes almost like chewing on a hop bud. Not for the weak of tongue. good brew. Snojerk321 (1919), San Diego, California, USA Dec 5, 2007 22oz bottle. A hop lovers dream!! Beer poured a rusty amber with a nice frothy off white head. Nose was bursting with floral hops. Also in the aroma I found citrus fruits, grass, pine, and clove spice. Great brew! shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 1, 2007 The aroma is a knockout of fresh, resiny hops -- not much else, but you don’t really need much more. One of the most pleasant IPA hop aromas I’ve tried. The pour is actually thick, almost like Pruno that’s been brewing underneath a prisoner’s mattress for a bit too long. Not the most desirable effect, but hey, it proves there’s a lot to this. And there is. Tons of sweet malts, grapefruity hops and alcohol. Thick bodied as a bull mastiff. I barely notice any bitterness, and I think they shied away from that a bit too much. As many have noted, doesn’t break any ground, but it’s still an impressive rendition of the style. DragonsHead (137), Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 28, 2007 Had on draft at Mad Mex. One of my favorite beers of all time. A great IIPA. Strange, cloudy appearance, but great aroma. Pine and citrus notes right off, with some serious hop citrus upon taste. A great beer overall. Always a favorite. Avery has yet to disapoint me. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Nov 25, 2007 Bottle purchased at Sam the Beer Man in Binghamton, NY. Pours hazy cider color, off white head. Aroma is caramel, peat, tangerine. Flavor is the same. I’m not a huge fan of the bog-like aroma/flavor, but at least this imperial IPA isn’t too syrupy. Nice hops. msante79 (785), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Nov 24, 2007 Updated: Apr 13, 2008Bomber. Pours an orange copper color, Creamy head. Smells hops, citris and pine. Taste of hops, citrus, a little pine and can really taste the alcohal. It has a some spice to it. I liked it a lot better the second time a had this.
Re-rate: Great stuff extreamy good balance for a great IIPA. Not as big Dreadnaught but has better balance. Great stuff. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Nov 23, 2007 Cloudy orange/brown, with a thick, dense off-white head. The aroma of pine is overwhelming from across the table. A closer sniff shows hints of malty sweetness. Medium-heavy body, with an astringent hop and alcohol mouth feel. The finish is fairly short for such a heavy beer. Adenila (931), Denmark Nov 18, 2007 Hazy orange look with a thick fast disappearing white head leaving lacings. Aroma was intense fruity, grape, citrus, pine and rasin. Thick oily palate probably comes from the huge amount of malt, that gives the beer a very very sweet base, of course backed up by the heavy hob bitterness.
