Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Poured from a bomber. Dark orange with quickly dissolving thin head. Can't pick up much aroma. Crazy big taste. Bitter grassy hoppy Carmel hints. Not sure I have and anything like it. Hides the high alcohol good. Not sure if my rating was sku'd by its high ratings. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at cooperís, Chelsea. Pours honey color, small ring of white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, citrus; big mix of so many different fruits. Orange, tangerine, mango, pineapple. Very nice. Flavor is really sweet citrus, tropical fruit, not overly bitter at all. Mostly just a bitterness in the finish. Very nice.

Bottle @ home, aged for a year but still a great DIPA. It has a frothy and steady white head accompanied by a slightly hazy orange to light amber liquid. The aroma is caramel sweet and warming with loads of pungent pineapple, ripe oranges, herbs. toffee Notes of alcohol, bread. Big bodied and sweet taste with medium carbonation. Itís bitter from the start with a caramel/toffee/bread backbone. Resinous grafruit dominates along with pine, orange and some mango and grass. Warming Alcohol. Aftertaste is bitter with a distinct orange peel and lemon juice bitterness.

Growler into a tulip glass. Strong citrus and pine in the aroma and taste. Not as bitter as the 102 IBU would suggest.

Draft at falling rock, denver. Pours hazy orange with thick white head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus and pine dominant. Taste is malty with hop finish. Drinkable but not a session beer!

Appearance: cloudy, muddy brown with a creamy light tan head and minimal lacing. Aroma: big, pungent smells, full of grapefruit, pine, resin, even some catty notes; thereís some toasted bread and caramel, too; this is a hugely aromatic beer. Taste: awash in hop flavors (but not an overpowering bitterness), with citrus, pine, spruce, apricot, peach, pineapple; malts are present as toast, caramel, and maybe molasses. Finish: dry, with lingering aromatics bit not nearly as bitter as expected; alcohol is incredibly well-hidden, as this went down all too easy. Notes: A big IPA that didnít quite live up to the hype indicated by our server, but good nonetheless. Draught at Birch and Barley.

Pours hazy amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, citrus, grape, pine, peach and alcohol. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, malty, caramel, citrus, grape, peach and pine finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

22 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Dark amber color. Very dark for an IPA. Quite clear for an IPA, too. Cream head that disappears quickly, not much lacing, but thereís a good amount of residue on the top of the beer. Smell is dominated by grapefruit. Great aroma. Sweet background caramel smell. Smells great and lets you know itís not a light IPA by any means. Citrusy hop flavor. Not bitter at first. The fresh hoppiness gives way to a strong malt sweetness very quickly. The end is a bitter finish. As it warms it picks up a slightly odd aftertaste I canít quite pinpoint. Has the mouthfeel of a barleywine. Syrupy with all the sweetness. Much like a Bigfootís mouthfeel. Very heavy bodied for an IPA. Overall - Iíve had two bottles. The first I was not happy with. The second one I am much happier with. Thereís definitely an off-flavor in there. The second time around I didnít detect it as much.

Bomber to tulip. Dark cloudy ruby red. Tan head. Aroma of pine, grass, floral, fresh hops and citrus. Taste is malty balance with pine, caramel, booze, dough, raisin. Super strong, but really well balanced with some real heat in the finish.

Draft. Pours murky orange with a thin white head that lingers around the rim. Nice citrus hop aroma over mild carbonation. Unfortunately, the booziness overwhelms the hop profile. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
