COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

22 oz. bottle. Bottled in 2005. A reddish-orange pour with thick fluffy sandy head that leaves rows of lacing. Aroma is powerful and pungent. Like walking through a field of freshly cut grass surrounded by trees of ripe lemons, oranges and grapefruits. Easily the most bitter beer Iíve ever tasted. This is like crack to a hop head. Powerfully bitter and hoppy. Sweet and tangy at the start with a warming belt of alcohol throughout. Then, those hops kick in... Full, syrupy body. At 9.7% ABV and 22 oz. this beer slapped me in the face...and I liked it! Cool bottle too.

Hazy orange-brown with small off white head. Aroma strong citrus hops, caramel malt. Full body. Some alcohol but not too harsh. Flavor is big. Citrus and piney hops. Caramel and brown sugar malt sweetness. Pretty well balanced. Overall a beer that knows what itís going for and doesnít mess around.

Draft wob cap hill. Dark amber, beady white head. Aroma is resiny hop, floral, and piney. Body is medium and hop bitterness is highly assertive and biting on the tongue. Hop flavor and bitterness is backed by a caramel candy like malt sweetness. Carbonation is pronounced. Alcohol flavors are nonexistent. Middle leads to a lemony like tartness that finishes dry with added hop flavor. Overall very sneaky easy drinking nicely balanced yet hop forward double ipa.

This is insanely good. Like unbelievably good. After popping the top you can just smell the tropical fruit immediately. Peach, mango, pineapple itís all there. Piney resinous aroma, itís all amazing. The dolor is a deep orange just beautiful. The taste is just out of this world. Itís so good. I always get worried about beers like this but this just kills it. Tropical fruit juice, lots of mango, epic bitterness and nice balance of malt. Itís just awesome stuff. I havenít been this excited about a beer in a while. Try this asap.

On tap at ABV Pub in Hillsboro, OR. Pours a dark golden/amber with a good white head. Aroma is citrus and fruity. Taste is big and dry, citrus and fruity with a wonderful complexity. Surprisingly not sweet, though there are plenty of malts. Itís a big beer, and has a hint of booze, but itís smooth and perfectly hopped and enjoyable to drink.

Pours a cloudy gold with a white head and lacing. The aroma is lots of resin and some pine and citrus. The flavor is resin and other hop flavors up front with a bitter but slightly sweet finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of my favorite double IPAs. Nice deep flavors of citrus/grapefruit, hops (clearly), pine, and some sweetness mixed in. Really nice bold hoppy finish.

Pours a rusty orange with sediment and white head. A floral hop and malt aroma. A strong malt, citrus/floral hop, and caramel taste. Bitter malt and hop aftertaste.

Pours golden amber with white head that stays prevalent around the edges throughout the whole beer. Aroma of citrus fruits, hops, and malt. Flavor is much of the same with some caramel notes. Very delicious.
