COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor’s Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

Aroma of malt, Tang, fresh banana, citrus. Spicy, herby hops and a strange, unpleasant must-like flavor that I consistently find in this beer. It’s bitter as all Hell, full of alcohol heat and not balanced at all.

This pours a beautiful golden red tea colour with a nice frothy eggshell head. The aroma is nicely complex with mildly spicy peppercorn, oregano, dank sweet malt, & grassy resinous hop, followed by a full herbaceous & resinous palate with a smooth oily mouthfeel that becomes crisp and almost salty with bursting flavour. Buttery malt flavours become pronounced before the finish resolves into a long grassy aftertaste. Outstanding!

Draft pour at Whip In. An attractive clear Amber worth hints of gold. Light carbonation in a pencil thin white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is citrus, pine, maybe banana? Flavor is hop forward and rolls into a mound of maltiness. The balance is remarkable, and this beer rocks. Soothing warm sensation follows the drink. Avery hit it out of the park.

Wow. Bottle release # 17 2013. Great lacing, aroma is bitter and hoppy. Color is a beautiful amber with deep gold. This beer is calm and confident in the glass. Sure of itself. It knows what it is. Astringency and easy swallow. Complement to the imperial style. I enjoy Avery because of their quality and high alcohol content. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Taco Mac. Deep amber with head that disapates. Incredible aroma of pine and citrus (grapefruit). Taste follows with well balanced malt backbone, touch of caramel, and a health dose of hop bitterness, heavy grapefruit. Mouthfeel was appropriate for the style. Not overly carbonated. Excellent beer.

Bottle. Beautiful orange amber color, clear. Light tan head that dissipates slowly. The nose has alcohol a little caramel and a hint of banana. The taste is moderately bitter with a resinous earthy taste and forward alcohol. It’s warming and a fantastic beer.

On tap in a snifter. Pours a very clear orange-amber with a small white head that eventually fades. Very minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet with some pineapple notes. Taste is hoppy up front but fades into a pineapple-y sweetness. Some notes of the alcohol are also noted. Average carbonation that leaves a slight tingle on the tongue. Good beer overall. Drink slowly because it definitely packs a punch.

Has an orange amber color and a cream colored head that dissipates quickly. I smell lots of citrus fruits and sweetness. I taste "hops" , pine cones, grapefruits and tartness. Nice hoppy beer....

Bottle. This is a gorgeous beer in a very attractive bottle. The flavors are powerful, but the alcohol bite was a tad bit overwhelming at times. Still wasn't enough of a problem to keep this from being a fantastic beer.
