COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

A clear dark amber with a big ivory head with good retention and great lacing. Detect grapefruit and pineapple on aroma with some pine and a little sweetness. Taste starts off sweet and then the grapefruit and orange pith come in, with an apparent taste of alcohol and hint of spiciness. Finishes with a piney bitter that isn't overwhelming. Body is medium-full with a somewhat silky mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Pretty well balanced and not as hoppy bitter as expected. Alcohol flavors tend to detract from what is an otherwise good IPA. ---Jeremy H

The really malty backbone on this imperial is what makes it so ridiculously good! Aroma is lots of piney hops and grapefruit rind. Taste is very resiny with notes of citrus peel--the explosion of malt is over the top... like a barley wine. Finish is deep and full bodied. excellent.

Whew boy, this one is so dank on the aroma, I wish I could give it more than a ten. Huge resinous syrupy body, overflowing with malty sweetness. Enough bold spicy hops to balance it out

22 oz bomber, pours cloudy amber, medium head leaves thin lacing. Aroma is the first clue, intense maltiness with a hint of sharp bitterness and apricot. Taste of apricot, nectarines and solid malt yet perfect offset of bitterness. May be the highest rating Iíve given to any beer, any style. Have liked most Avery beers, this just proves world-class American craft beer capability.

22 ounce bottle at home. Color is orange amber with off-white foam head. Interesting smell of apricots and nectarine with floral tones. Similar in taste, a nice lingering taste on the back of the palette. Slightly sweet in flavor. Overall a nice summer IPA. I Would be really interested to see how this tastes poured fresh draught. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

11/17/14. Birthday bomber for C. Very solid. Nice stick lacy hard and deep rather than flowery nose. Heavy hops balance the heavy alcohol. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2014 Pours a cloudy amber orange with a thin, creamy beige head. Aromas are fresh pine hops and stone fruits. Flavors are sweet stone fruits and butterscotch that quickly make way for piney hops, muted herbs, and bitter orange. Finishes with a peppery hop bite and orange peel. Peppery but oily mouthfeel. This is a 10% ABV beer, but itís not really noticeable. Really very nice.

Bottle pour. Cloudy copper/amber color with a small white head. Herbal, floral, and light pine aroma. Creamy light to medium body. Pine with a hoppy taste. No alcohol taste which is very good for the alcohol content.
