COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

A clear dark amber with a big ivory head with good retention and great lacing. Detect grapefruit and pineapple on aroma with some pine and a little sweetness. Taste starts off sweet and then the grapefruit and orange pith come in, with an apparent taste of alcohol and hint of spiciness. Finishes with a piney bitter that isn't overwhelming. Body is medium-full with a somewhat silky mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Pretty well balanced and not as hoppy bitter as expected. Alcohol flavors tend to detract from what is an otherwise good IPA. ---Jeremy H

Bomber bought @ Systembolaget. Pours tiny hazy pale amber with a frothy offwhite head that leaves some sticky trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is smell is sweet with caramel, grapefruit juice, moist grass, pine needles, resinous wood, alcohol, kumquats and lemon zest. Taste is sweet and bitter with heavy caramel, grapefruit juice, lychee, alcohol, pine needles, grass, resin, overripe pineapple, orange zest and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round, slightly sticky sweet, slightly oily bitter, boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, grapefruit juice, pine needles, resinous wood, alcohol, orange zest and lemon zest. The beer if ofcourse old having traveled all the way here and waited for a SB release and it shows. It has however oxidized in a decent enough manner with no cardboard notes. Just caramel, grapefruit and alcohol. decent but would love to try it fresh at some point.

Väldigt lik någon annan dipa jag drack i New York!

Pours a pretty clear dark copper with a finger of off-white head. Extremely fruity and floral nose. Fresh and hoppy aromas with loads of citrus fruits, peaches, grass, some honey and various flowers. Flavour is big and bold. There's quite a lot of malty sweetness, together with an almost salty tang of licorice. The bitterness kicks in late and stays for a minute but it's not all that intense. Very interesting and tasty brew. I suspect it was a lot more bitter a few months ago (we don't get these very fresh here), but I'm very impressed by this anyway, the strong aftertaste of sweet and salty licorice is something I haven't found in an Imperial IPA before. Great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy orange-brown with small off white head. Aroma strong citrus hops, caramel malt. Full body. Some alcohol but not too harsh. Flavor is big. Citrus and piney hops. Caramel and brown sugar malt sweetness. Pretty well balanced. Overall a beer that knows what it’s going for and doesn’t mess around.
