4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Great aroma - good floral/citrus hop balance. Typical IPA color. Bite of malt up front then - Bam! - hops hit you...great balance - super hop flavor without being overly "bitter". Smooth, medium bodied, full flavored, slight alcohol bite in the finish.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
June 2011 batch
A: Pours a copper ale with a single finger of peanut head. This falls slowly to a quilt of the same capping an ale with brilliant clarity. Rings of lacing.
S: Grapefruit, bubble gum, cotton candy, lemon, sweet malts with caramel flavors. I can smell the bitterness coming through and some really slight pine smells.
T: Sweet and bitter and earthy and alcoholic. I really, really like this beer. The hops are sweet, the bubble gum and cotton candy feels really nice against a resiny and citrus rind bitterness. The malt profile is sweet with flavors of caramel, toffee, tobacco, reduced apricot. Really a great beer.
M: Medium mouth feel with low on moderate carb. The beer is a bit chewy with a dry finish for the style. I like it, the heat from the alcohol makes my mouth water and compels me to drink more.
O: Seriously, to all those in the Avery market, if you haven’t tried this beer, or you love HopSlam, Pliny, Sculpin, Hop Stoopid, then pick this up, you won’t be disappointed.

Especially tasty Imperial IPA. Dark amber pour with a nice lacing white head. Citrus and pine balanced nose. The taste is more malty upfront, but has grapefruit and pine at the back. Minty sweetness as well. The mouthfeel was wonderful, tingly but not light.

Great golden color with a modest head. Very tasty. Too bad it's not distributed to Europe.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2013 Bottle: copper and amber with excellent clarity; light beige, creamy and fine-bubbled head tops it off and leaves behind some nice lacing. Aroma is pine, orange zest, grapefruit, mild pineapple, white pepper, ashy leaves. Some dank, weedy, pungency opens up with time. Heavy malt bill underneath; sweet, toasty, steel-y caramel notes, light brown sugar, a touch of spice. Taste is pungent and fairly sweet. Floral hops, perfume, pine, faint cinnamon and white pepper spices. Lots of caramel malt, sweet bread, toffee... a little too much malt sweetness for a DIPA. Hops bring out mid-palate bitterness; sugar-coated grapefruit peels, citrus, pungent pine needles... I’m just not a huge fan of the overly malty, sweet DIPAs which is what this beer seems to be.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Clear amber pour, white head. Aroma is quite piney, resinous hops, very piney, alcohol notes. Taste is actually quite malty, lots of biscuity malt, but with a strong sticky hop bite. Very bitter finish. Rich palate, light-medium carbonation. A real heavy hitter - not bad but not particularly drinkable.
