COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Release no.18 2014. Medium amber pour with a slight ruby cast. Excellent head and good lacing retention. Nice complex nose of citrus (grapefruit, mango, orange) and spruce hops over a rich caramel background. Almost full bodied with a creamy texture and a slightly above normal carbonation level that has a bit of effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is complex, but a bit unbalanced due to the alcohol content bite. It begins with the hop flavors of the nose, flows to a rich caramel sweetness which is accompanied by a medium well rounded bitterness. It progresses to the finish where alcohol predominates over a residual sweetness, leaving an alcohol burn on the tongue and back of the throat. While outstanding, it could be improved by reducing the alcohol content a percent or two to achieve better balance.

Big blast of pine with a hint of citrus. Pours a cloudy orange Amber with a thick foamy off white head. Much better balanced than the aroma led me to believe. Thickish velvety mouthfeel. Sweet malty candy. Orange, grapefruit. Bitter edgy finish with some nice boozy warming.

Very nice tropical and floral citrus hop aroma with a nice Caramelized malt backing. Taste is the same. Has tremendous balance, tons of malt but not sticky or sweet. Tons of hops but doesn’t overpower the malt. Some resin hoppy finish but malt balances that very well. Really a great imperial IPA. Hops take on a bit of a medicinal herbal character after a bit. Not sure why? Overwhelmed palate?---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy orange color, much lace. Full body, outgoing and tight knit flavor, rich and soupy mouthfeel, lingering palate. Sweet & bitter, fresh acidity. Delicious and intense orange flavor. Fantastic, worth searching for. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at cooper’s, Chelsea. Pours honey color, small ring of white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, citrus; big mix of so many different fruits. Orange, tangerine, mango, pineapple. Very nice. Flavor is really sweet citrus, tropical fruit, not overly bitter at all. Mostly just a bitterness in the finish. Very nice.

Bottle @ home, aged for a year but still a great DIPA. It has a frothy and steady white head accompanied by a slightly hazy orange to light amber liquid. The aroma is caramel sweet and warming with loads of pungent pineapple, ripe oranges, herbs. toffee Notes of alcohol, bread. Big bodied and sweet taste with medium carbonation. It’s bitter from the start with a caramel/toffee/bread backbone. Resinous grafruit dominates along with pine, orange and some mango and grass. Warming Alcohol. Aftertaste is bitter with a distinct orange peel and lemon juice bitterness.

Growler into a tulip glass. Strong citrus and pine in the aroma and taste. Not as bitter as the 102 IBU would suggest.

Draft at falling rock, denver. Pours hazy orange with thick white head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus and pine dominant. Taste is malty with hop finish. Drinkable but not a session beer!

Appearance: cloudy, muddy brown with a creamy light tan head and minimal lacing. Aroma: big, pungent smells, full of grapefruit, pine, resin, even some catty notes; there’s some toasted bread and caramel, too; this is a hugely aromatic beer. Taste: awash in hop flavors (but not an overpowering bitterness), with citrus, pine, spruce, apricot, peach, pineapple; malts are present as toast, caramel, and maybe molasses. Finish: dry, with lingering aromatics bit not nearly as bitter as expected; alcohol is incredibly well-hidden, as this went down all too easy. Notes: A big IPA that didn’t quite live up to the hype indicated by our server, but good nonetheless. Draught at Birch and Barley.
