3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 patrick767 (2836) - fort wayne, USA - AUG 15, 2006
draft at the Publick House in Boston - The Maharaja pours light amber with a two finger head that leaves a touch of lace. An abundance of pine and citrus hops waft up from the glass, alluding to the huge hops that will soon be tasted. On tasting, I took note of the good balance struck between the massive hops and the generous portion of malts. I see the ABV is a little higher than I thought. It’s certainly well hidden. The finish provides a lingering, pleasant hop bitterness. It’s not complicated. This beer is about the hops. But it’s very good.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 scooter520 (79) - - MAY 25, 2012
Bottle. Appearance: very clear, amber orange with fluffy white head. Aroma: very floral, tropical fruits, pineapple, caramel. Taste: touch of bitterness up front then floral, grapefruit, and that sweet caramel malt and piney hop coming in at the middle thru the finish lingering sugar sweet and pith bitter. Perfect balance. Mouthfeel: oily slick with little carbonation. Overall: this is one of my very favorite DIPAs especially when I've had it on tap. Very well balanced, that perfect fruity bitter hop with a sweet caramely malt backbone. Hides the alcohol dangerously well. I've had this bottle a little bit so the hops could've faded just a touch.

tap @ abbey (Miami Beach). White head on a clear, dark golden beer. Fruity hops in the aroma: grapefruit, orange, apricot, a hint of pine; nice! Very (hop)bitter in taste, with again grapefruit, citrus and orange, but not to sharp. Alcohol is well hidden, good drinkable imperial IPA.

Older Bottle. Pours a golden orange color with a white head. Aroma is very caramel like and syrupy, I get subtle grapefruit and pineapple along with pine and earth, but its dominated by caramel and toffee. Flavor follows the nose, I get solid bitterness, but it is also quite syrupy, I get subtle grapefruit and earthy notes, caramel and toffee and sugar notes. The body is on the fuller side of medium with a dry mouth feel. Overall kind of disappointing, its good, but I would have preferred to try it fresher.

Bottle. Pours a little darker than some other iipas. Aroma is a little muted and not tons of hops. Taste is good, but not the pleasant hop taste I am accustomed to. Not on the top of my short list of great iipas.

Amber color, less then a finger of head. Huge alcohol legs on the glass. Very fruity smelling. Hop aroma is very strong. Malty and bread aromas. Still very pleasant. Very smooth taste, hop presence right up front and a ton of it. Towards the end the alcohol burn is there, being 10.5% I would hope it was. As it warmed up a little alcohol was kicked up.
Overall a very good DIPA. I think with the alcohol the balance with everything was very very good. Highly recommend this. Cheers

Mild hoppiness balanced by sweet citrus. The alcohol doesn’t bite, but sneaks up on you as you finish it. Excellent IIPA!
2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 schoolofchuck (12) - Kansas, USA - MAY 16, 2012
Aroma: Flower shop, with pines, with citrus fruit sprinkled every square meter. You can observe the bouquet from a meters distance. Quite amazing, I really can’t state how much I enjoyed the scent this brew put off, and how it filled such a large area like a kitchen.
Appearance: Typical IPA, pale gold with quick fading head in this case.
Taste: BITTER!!! ALCOHOL!!
Palate: I only had a sip.
Overall: A quality brew, but I only recommend it to that special hop-head who has grown immune to all those "regular" IPA’s out there and just can’t get their fix. To the lager drinker, a pale ale will seem bitter, but to a hop-head, lager tends to have a "tea" taste, and regular IPA resembles a light ale. I only include this because the experience of this brew is so relative to your personal preference. If you haven’t quite adapted to the extreme bitterness and alcohol taste, you can surely enjoy the bouquet.

On Draught. Amazing aroma of Piney citrus hops, Very sweet on the palate with complex hops coming through on the palate, I feel like the alcohol is masking some hop flavour, I get malt in the middle followed by a sweet finish. There’s no denying the hop profile but just a little too sweet for my liking.

coper color, aroma of grapefruit and other citrus fruits, caramel, bread, flavors of grapefruit, pine, caramel, toast, alcohol spice on the finish, nice amount of bitterness, good balance, dry finish, slightly more mild than i was expecting for a 10.5% but still a very good brew
