Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

Pours a gorgeous orange color with a thin white head. Aroma is like a Christmas tree that has Grapefruit ornaments. Lots of hop character but with a solid malt backbone. Almost perfectly balanced. The hops just keep coming, but never feel like they’re punching you in the teeth. This is a fantastic Double IPA.

epic brew yet again....wonderful head, huge hops aroma but plenty of malt to balance the taste. almost a spicy, peppery finish which allowed the 10.7% ABV to go unnoticed...Adam Avery has now moved into my top 3 USA brewers!

Pours a hazy golden yellow-orange with a frothy off-white head. Strong citrusy grapefruit hop aroma. Taste has a great malt base with notes of caramel. The hop flavor and bitterness dominate. This brew is amazing, an ode to hops in all their glory.

Served in a snifter at the Austin Flying Saucer. Mahogany body, golden around the edges, 1 finger off-white head lasts about a minute. Strong grapefruit smell and initial taste, enough carbonation to excite the tongue and back of the throat. Citrus/hops and alcohol battle for dominance throughout. Overall, a must try!
