COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

On tap at O’Brien’s recently. Had the distinct pleasure of having a pint with Adam Avery at lunch. Pours a beautiful copper orange and red with a nice inch+ thick head that stayed around. Wow, does this beer smell terrific. Maybe it’s just a really fresh keg, but the pine and sweet citrus/grapefruit hops are just jumping out of the glass on this one. Obviously dry-hopped very well. Taste is all about the high alpha hops, but is very well balanced with a sugary malt backbone. Very hop candy-ish with a resinous, oily mouthfeel. Not hot with alcohol in the least bit. Smooth and terrifically drinkable. Not sure how the latest bottled version matches up, but this one is a winner. If I hadn’t needed to drop my buddy off at the SD airport, I would have stayed and drank several more throughout the afternoon. A rock solid IIPA.

Bottle pour. Cloudy copper/amber color with a small white head. Herbal, floral, and light pine aroma. Creamy light to medium body. Pine with a hoppy taste. No alcohol taste which is very good for the alcohol content.

Bottle. Orange pour with white head. Grassy, herbal and strong hop aromas. Flavors similar with citrus and other dank hop tones.

22 ounce bottle. Cloudy orange color. Small beige head. Rich toasted malt nose with grapefruit hop notes. Tasty toasted malt flavor with sweet, sweet love fruit. I’m out of my mind. Seriously, this is a delicious IIPA of serious proportions. Enjoy!

Pours clear orange some head no lacing. Nose is nose is earthy bitter. Flavours of sweet fruit, grapefruit, some sweet malt. Taste medium bitter med/light sweet. Full sticky body with lively carbonation and a reasonably prominent alcohol burn. Huge beer, but nice.

Pours a hazy but bright golden amber with a soapy yellow white head that slowly fades to a fat-laces rim and coating. A good-looking beer. Aroma is tropical citrus - orange and pineapple. Taste echoes the citrus flavors over a backbone of sweet caramel malts. There is a nice thread of piney hop bitterness that begins to dominate on the backend. Aftertaste brings back some citrus along with the grapefruit bitterness. A high quality IIPA that has a sweet leaning that is largely typical for the style. Very enjoyable to this high gravity beer lover.

Dark orange/amber pour with a white head. Aromas of old hops and slight citrus peel. Flavor is old hops with a kind of zing in the finish that I wasn’t crazy about. This one was way past it’s prime.

Release No. 18. 2014.

Bomber poured into shaker pint and shared with Tim K. Orange and clear body with an off-white head that sticks and leaves lace patches. Aroma is citrus (mostly grapefruit), tobacco, honey, and caramel malt. Taste is moderately bitter with a touch of malty sweetness, centered around grapefruit peel, pine, hop resin, and caramel. Medium body, slightly creamy texture, average carbonation, bitter finish with a hint of alcohol.

Bottle from swedish SB. Pours clear dark amber with a creamy head that settles slowly. Aroma is strong with clear notes of citrus, pine and toast. Taste is bitter with notes of fruit and backed up by a soft malty sweetness that enda in a lingering refreshing bitterness. One of the most well balanced IIPAs I have ever had.
