COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

This Imperial IPA is good but not outstanding. I can’t actually recall why I rated it this low but I do recall my initial impression and that it did not improve at all over the course of draining a 22 oz bomber. I did drink the Tzar Imperial Stout the same weekend and was so impressed tried to find more later that month. These are widely different style beers and cannot be compared. Avery misses the mark with me in a variety of beers I’ve tried by Avery. This one lines up on the "not impressed" list for Avery.

Tap at Harenohi. glowing orange-amber, clear. Huge jammy stone fruit and marmalade nose, orange, peach, some caramel. Sweet and jammy, pine resins, stewed apricots. Huge fruit and good bitterness, with mild caramel notes. Good stuff. Manages to avoid too much syrupy character.

Tap at Devil Craft Hamamatsucho, Tokyo. Slight hazy amber. Thin covering of head. Huge floral hop and caramel aroma. Insanely concentrated taste, same kind of floral hoppiness, very bitter but drinkable too. Immense but they’ve made it work.

Decent size head with nice lacing. Brown sugar aroma. This sweetness continues into the very complex flavors with nice hoppy bitterness in the finish.

Batch 21, Jan 2015. Amber in color, slight off white foam head that lasted the whole time. Nothing much in the way of lacing though. Aroma was of hops, grass, and lots of pine. Taste is very heavy on the malts, pine, and quite big of hops. Pretty full bodied in nature with some bitterness bite on the finish. Really great, malt forward, semi-sweet DIPA that did not disappoint!

Draft at Craft and Growler in Dallas. Pours a clear, dark copper color with a very thin white head. Solid hoppy aroma with a citrus bite. Very smooth taste. Grapefruit and hoppy notes. Slight dry finish. Very impressive and I would line this up over Pliny any day.

Amber golden color. Sweet malty nose with stone fruit and peaches. Uber full body, slightly sweet, but overall very malty iipa. Big hops. Nice but a bit too malty for me, but for malty iipa this is great.

Bottle from SB. Very nice taste and aroma. Maybe I waited a little too long before drinking it. Good beer anyway!

Poured from bomber bottle into snifter glass. It poured a mostly clear orange amber colour with sudsy white foam, long-lasting with lace. Severely bitter which persists long into the aftertaste. Strong grapefruit and black currant flavours, not much else. Perhaps there’s a maltbill underneath there, but how would you know? Medium body and carbonation. Way too much alcoholic heat. A great big "kick you in the nuts" kinda IPA available everywhere, but I just don’t know how it gets such consistently high ratings.

Pours Amber with frothy tan head on tap. Aroma of berries, citrus, and slight oak. Flavor of sweet citrus and malt. Good beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
