COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor’s Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

Bottle; Beer Wench’s IPA vs. Belgian tasting at Surly Girl; paired with Stilton cheese; the IIPA complemented well with the strong cheese; wiped out the palate for the following Stoudt’s APA

On tap at bad apple. Dark red with a little bit of foamy head which stays around. This tastes smashing for a double digit abv. Nice hop with very little flavor beyond the piney hop. No burn and no lingering taste. This is exceptional.

Big bottle from the brewery and brought back to Mpls for consumption. Consumed with commonshawn in a Belgian snifter glass. An aromatic bouquet featuring tropical fruit, citrus, and a sweetness. Beautiful appearance with a deep orange color and healthy haze. The taste really lives up to the expectations established by the aroma and appearance. Sweetness comes through really well. Hidden alcohol content which comes as a surprise. Little bit of a hop quotient comes into play but it’s kind of muted. Impressive beer overall and one that I emphatically recommend.

Bottle [from Secret Summer Santa] @ home. Clear dark orange to amber color, medium to full sized off-white head that lasts for a decent while and leaves great lacing. Aroma is malts, hops, loads of resinous and piney hops. Taste is moderate to heavy malty, heavily hopped with again mostly resinous and piney hops, a hint of wood, firm bitterness especially in the aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Good but not as great as I had hoped.

Tap at Butcher and boar with commonmac. Tulip glass. Cloudy dark orange with medium white head. Medium hop and alcohol aroma. Perfect balance of hop and alcohol and some funk. Really like the resin funky yeasty taste and body. Oily. Really nice finish. Great beer.

Avery does know their big beers. Nice resiny, oily hops work their way through the rich malts. Not overly sweet, though. Others said in their review it is a slow sipper, but I’m going through mine way too fast.

Pours a clear amber with large beige head that lasts and leaves great lacing. Aroma is big, sweet fruits, a little banana Runts. Taste creeps into hoppy Barleywine territory, with a massive weight to it. Tons of caramel and raisin up front, plenty of boozy malts. The hops are drowning in it all, but are able to make a statement as well. This is a drinkable sipper of a full DIPA. Palate is thick and oily. This would be a good counterpart to some flavorful grilled meat or something. Without food it takes quite a while to consume.

2015 version. Pours a cloudy amber-orange, with smallish head. Strong tropical and citrus fruit aromas, with some floral accents and hops. Flavor is on the sweetish side, with tropical fruit and piney hops in the mixture. Good but not great.

Pours a deep amber from a bottle with good off-white head, leaving lots of lacing. Big tropical fruit hoppiness, with some pine resin too. Lots of caramel flavor too, very sweet. Almost too sweet, very heavy too, a little oily. Good beer, but was hoping for more.

Draft at the Pub. Pours a hazy deep orange light Amber color with an off white head. Aroma is fantastic. Huge fleshy tropical fruit character that is very apparent in the flavor as well. Massive, absolutely massive hop character. Wonderful.
