Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Bottle. Pours a medium copper with a slight head. The head goes quickly, with little lacing. The upfront is kind of sweet with some alchohol flavors. Not hoppy enough for me, although finishes clean and dry. More hops would have gave it better balance and I think an overall better beer. I will try again and hope for better results.

Aroma floral, resin, citrus, Appearance orange, hazy, tan foam, Taste medium sweetness, medium bitterness, very bitter, Palate medium body, sticky, average carbonation, bitter, Overall a bit overally bitter for me but that being said still a very well made beer that has a nice pine/spruce taste. I would suggest this beer to a friend who likes very choppy beers.

From notes. On tap at Bell’s Funvitational on September 12. The pour is a nice dark pink/light purple with a light film of pink head that falls off quickly with no lace. The aroma is vinous blueberry, tart fruit skins, and a nice light Brett funk. The flavor is also very blueberry based (I’d hope so). There is a nice and sharp tart fruit and a little funk. I’m picking up a couple lighter fruits on the back, but the sour does drown them out. The mouth feel is really good. Thin and crisp with bubbly carbonation and a quick, sharp light sour, fruity finish. I wish this was a little more sour, and that the fruits were more drawn out on the finish.

Poured from a bomber with a release no 25 (July 2015) The aroma is decent, but not overwhelming. I can see how it would sit and age how I wouldn’t like the aroma at all, but this is fresh enough to enjoy. Very full mouth feel. Abv hidden extremely well. 102 IBUs, but nicely balanced. Solid beer.

Bottle (22oz $7.50): Orange with big white head. Aroma was not huge, but definitely there. Taste was huge both the malts and hops. Medium plus body. Somewhat sweet and a little fruity with pine too. Need to get more.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2015 How many hits would you have take to think that Comrade Superpower is a better IPA than this epic expression of Simcoe resin? More than five. In less than ten minutes. Dabs.
