COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Hazy golden/brown beer with a slightly off-white head. Fruity aromas mix with those of candy sugars. Tastes of crystallized sugars, brown sugar, bread malts, sweet doughs, some raisins, faint hops, and prunes. A bit syrup-like, the sugars can be a bit too much. Still tasty, quality brewing. The sugary finish lingers long after the last sip.

22 oz bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, Missouri. Pour is a hazed golden brown with a tan head that falls quickly. The aroma is sweet pineapple brown sugar malt, along with floral spice yeast. Not much evident alcohol in the nose, which is a tad surprising. The taste is sweet up front, more brown sugar candy than pineapple, but the fruit is present. The yeast jumps in mid-taste, and sort of jumps on top of the sweet, rather than mixing in or integrating. There is a grassy earthy thing going on in the finish, and only the very end of the lingering finish shows alcohol. The flavors are decent, just a bit to sharp for my tastes. The palate is on the heavier side of medium bodied, with an oily syrupy mouth feel. This is a pretty typical American style Quad, in my book. I think someone looking for an aggressive, sweet beer would like this. That’s not my bag, though.

Amber with only a bit of head. Aroma is typical Belgian - a bit of sour funkiness. Taste is sweet but full of spices. Many flavors going on - pancake syrup and candy. The finish has a twang to it - kind of a balance of sweet syrup with some sourness. A good beer that has tons of taste, but you wouldn’t want to have more than one in an evening.

Poured from a bottle to a trappist glass. Nice ruby red body. Initial aromas of earthy and citrus notes. Can’t taste much because it’s so strong.

22 oz. bottle in a snifter. Thin amber pour with minimal head. Strong sweet caramel aroma. Very sweet up front. Molasses and fruit with a hint of spice behind it. The sweet is overwhelming.

22 oz. bottle- Pours clear ruby red with a head that reduces to a foamy collar, aroma is cherries and wood, but is very subdued. The taste is cherries, belgian yeast, apple core, good, but not great. The body is medium, carbonation is low for the style. Overall obviously not as good as the authentic, but simplisticly decent.

Dark cherry red in color. Slight bubbly head with average lacing. Cherry aromas. Earthy notes with smokey vanilla follow ups. Ginger in the taste. For some reason i taste a hot dog with ketchup. Has a creamy feel to it on the palate. Has medium carbonation. Never had an actual meaty beer. Caught off gaurd but liked it.
