This beer went down remarkably smooth for a belgian quad. It had all the typical characteristics....roasted fruit, alcohol, yeast, etc....from start to finish, but it didnt possess anything that made it stand out above the others....not bad though.

This one seems more like a liqueur than a beer. Clear orange with almost no head. Sweet aroma of spicy orange and cotton candy, hint of alcohol. Initial impression of rock-candied alcohol takes a couple of sips to get past (though you never really get over -- it’s defnitely cloying), but then you notice there’s actually genuine maltiness (caramel and fruity) and hop (not just alcohol) bitterness. Very light on the front and middle of the tongue, but the alcohol grabs the back of your tongue and into your throat. Cotton candy aftertaste.

The clear orangey color of cognac with a viscosity like a liqueur. There’s a mild citrus aroma behind the candy-sweetness, and there’s quite a bit of alcohol in the aroma, as well. The flavor is surprisingly light. The sweet, alcohol flavor dances around the edges and over the top of your tongue without actually landing on it with full force. The finish has a bit of clove and citrus in it -- a little like I imagine the juice of a sweet, blood orange that had been studded with cloves for a while would taste. It’s a lovely after-dinner drink. A respectable beer alternative to brandy or cognac. Very interesting, indeed.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2003 Strong estery, almost smoky, aroma. Light brown with a big head. Malty. Toffee flavors. Slightly smoky flavor. Full bodied. Not as big as I expected from a Quad. Fairly tasty brew.
Notes from tasting of first batch of Reverend at Pizza Port fest: Mega malt aroma. Flavor backs it up quite nicely. Reminds me of what a Belgian Barleywine would be. Light brown and extremely creamy. Slight hops in the finish. Oh yeah! First batch rating: Ar-7 Ap-3 Fl-7 Pa-5 Ov-18 (4.0)

Glowing amber. Dense, sticky light tan foam. Streaming carbonation. Aroma of Belgian yeast, candied sugar, estery alcohol, Goldings hops and crystallized caramel. First sip is rich, velvety and thickly coating with a caramelized brown sugar sweetness. Immediate alcohol burn in the throat. Mix of hops and caramel in the mostly clean aftertaste. Softly spicy. Smooth and delicate. Medium thick body. Lightly yeasty. Notable caramel maltiness beneath the heavily candied sweetness, which is never sticky even as it warms. Not very complex or thought provoking but good enough, especially at 10% ABV and staggeringly drinkable. Alcohol becomes more estery and pronounced in flavor as it’s warming. Finishes intensified in sweetness, spiciness and yeast flair. A good but unremarkable brew.

Like drinkin’ a slag of pure copper. Little bit of fruity smell with sweet smell of malt behind it. Wow, dark nutty taste with a nice little burn. This is a pretty strong beer. Interesting take on a Belgian strong. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if it wants to bite or settle down. Could easily start talkin’ in tounges if you drank enough of this...

Deep copper color, with an off-white, smallish sprity head. Floral/fruity aroma includes orange zest. Very sweet throughout - unbalanced so. Could not get past the sweetness us to much so.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2006 The reverend battles the legions of satan to bring you, his heathen followers, a much needed respite from the king of beers. This ale has an amber glow ready to strike down the unbelievers. The ale really opens up as it warms and provides complex spices that attack the senses. This ale reminds me of a mellow version of the affligem triple - probably because this is a quad! Re-Rate: Flavor is *really* sweet. Tastes like I’m sipping a pack of sugary bubblegum.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2006 Bottle... It’s a pretty good belgian style quad. A bit on the hot side, but pleasantly warming. If you haven’t tried a quad, this would be a good one to start with, but be sure you are sitting down and have no plans for the rest of the day.
