COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

I understand that this beer has pure cane sugar in it, but it honestly tastes like someone took an above average, higher end priced, beer and poured in a few sugar packers. Its too sweet in a hard to drink way. - One possible upside, the alcohol taste is concealed pretty well.

Very slightly hazy orange red pour with a white head, good retention and average lace. Aroma of spicy and sweet pepper, sweet belgian candy and slight citrus. Flavor is Belgian candy sweetness wtih medium spicy bitterness from the hops. Medium body wtih moderate carbonation and very little alcohol warmth. 10% is well hidden. Great beer.

Bomber from The Village Market. Pours a dark cloudy brown with a decent off-white head. The most predominant notes are spicy, sweetness from the malts and slightly bitter dark fruits. The abv was clearly present throughout the beer. Another nice selection from Avery but I’m pretty sure if faced with other abts/quads I’d take them over this.

Enjoyed from a 22oz bottle in a tulip glass. The beer pours a deep brown with an off-white to nearly tan head. The nose brings very strong malt notes, giving the sense that the beer is more a doppelbock than a Belgian strong dark. Additionally, notes of cherry and wood come through that bring the overall aromatics closer to style. The palate begins very malt, and then adds in some yeast-derived medium fruits (again cherries?), and finishing slightly sweet. Overall, very well done.

On tap at the brewery on 7/17/09. Officially my 300th rating! Pours a nice dark orange, beautiful head. A bit of sweaty funk to go with the rich caramel and cloves. Flavor didn’t blow me away, but it was well balanced and the alcohol is hidden extremely well.

Strong smell of maltose and barley with hints of yeast and clove. Flavor is rich in caramel, molasses, and malt with a small hint of dark fruit. A slightly alcoholic finish ending with a sweet up-taste. A lot of candied sugar and dark cherries with an underlying spiciness. If candy and imbibing is sinful, this is as sinful as the eponymous city. Perhaps a bad example of the style, but still a good beer.

Bomber into an abbey glass. Pours murky brown mixed with blood orange with a small white head that settles into a small layer and ring quickly. The aroma reminds more of a Belgian brown than a quad, malty and rich. The flavor is a bit on the light side, oddly enough, and not quite complex enough. There is some ester, a fair amount of malt, and a dash of dust. High carbonation and a big mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours a nice dark amber color with a frothy, off-white head. Aromas of bananas, malts, cherry, and a hint of orange. Texture is lively to start, then quickly goes smooth with a fantastically oily mouthfeel. Flavors of currants, bananas, and actually a nice mellow malty taste. I didn’t have high expectations for this beer but it exceeded expectations.
