COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pours light amber with white head that dissipates. Aroma is malty and medicinal. Taste is same as aroma, pepper/spice, anise, burnt sugar, dark fruit, alcohol is warming. It’s a good quad but there are much better.

Brownish ruby amber with modest white head. Aroma is loaded with dark fruit- raisin, plum, fig, caramel, molasses and lots of spicy yeast. Flavor mimics the aroma in many senses: tons of residual sugar sweetness with a backbone of malt and slightest hop balance. Quite underrated. Palate is silky smooth and slightly alcoholic. Excellent.

pours a red/orange with a 1 finger frothy head. Aroma is heavy with dark fruit- prunes, fig, raisin, plum. Flavor is very sweet; the dark fruits lighten up a bit and become sweeter, and the alcohol manifests itself in what struck me as a cognac flavor. Palate is pretty average for the style. I like it because it’s a quad, but not impressive compared to some others.

Bomber served in a snifter. Pours a cloudy dark orange. Nose of a Bloody Mary. Minimal head and lacing. Full flavored and sugary. Prune and molasses finish. I had high hopes, but can not recommend this one.

Aroma of alcohol and sugars with some fruit. Caramel and fruity taste leads to an alcohol finish. Nice beer

Bottle. Pours a gorgeous, clear rusty amber. The appearance of this beer is quite beautiful, actually. Definitely this quad’s strongest feature. A rather thick and quickly vanishing head, yielding some pleasant lacing on the glass. The head didn’t yield too much in the way of an aroma, however. There was a bit of cinnamon and alcohol, but not much else. Brown sugar and cinnamon in the mouth, with a silky texture, though not as full of a mouthfeel that a quad demands. Finish is slightly sour with alcohol.

I want to like this beer. Its color and aroma are great, but the flavor and palate are a complete let down. The finish (unless I got a bunk bottle) was almost sour in my mouth.

Sampled yesterday with BrotherBrando: Poured a dark but cloudy copper colour with a huge white head. Aroma had noticeable alcohol and fruity esters, wheat and caramel notes on the nose. Taste was pleasent, very rich, and creamy with brown sugar and plum notes. A little spice in the finish as well.

Bottle. Pours a red ruby color with a small, quickly disappearing head. Smells like sweet bread, with plums and yeast. Tastes of raisins, caaramel, burnt malts with a nice alcoholic bite. creamy and gently fizzy mouthfeel.

2008 Bottle - Thanks SpringsLicker! - Pours a hazy copper with a small off white head...aroma is light belgian with some pit fruit and black tea...flavour is sticky sweet fruit that takes a backseat to the booze and malt syrup...I also get massive tea-like qualities, light tannins and spice...no telling what this would be like with a few years in the bottle...
