COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

22-AUG-2011, bottle @home, from Systembolaget somewhere, gift from Erik. Red/brown with high lasting beige head that coats the glass. Very malty - almost barley wine-like. Sweet and malty fruity. Full mouthfeel, alcohol well integrated, and long aftertaste. Some hoppy bitterness ends it all. Nice, thank you, Erik.

Pours a honey color with aroma of tropical fruits and nuts. Taste is slightly spicy with strong fruit taste. Taste is distinctly passion fruit or something tropical. Overall a decent offering from Avery.

This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity.

Thanks to WhyBeNormal for sending this out in a BIF a ways back. Served in a Mikasa goblet. Pours a clear garnet-copper color with a single-finger white head that falls quickly into a thick collar around the edges. A few bubbles on top as well. No real lacing. The nose brings forward some strong plum and prune character along with milder dark fruits in the background. Light cherry and a very faint amount of caramel. The flavor is sweet with a strong prune flavor and not much balance. Seems like a malty sweetness with fruit; no real yeast participation. Light-medium body with low carbonation and a bit of booze. Not a big fan overall, though nothing seriously wrong with it. Serving type: bottle

Copper with beige head. Herbaceous nose with clove, plumb and caramel. Medium-heavy body. Lots more clove with fresh baked bread, milk chocolate, and figs. Not as dark or complex as the quads I prefer. Booze is well hidden and overall enjoyable. Tastes more like a big dubbel to me.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. This beer pours a ruby body with a bubbly off white head that settles quickly. It smells of caramel and dark fruits. It also smells sweet like candied sugar. The taste is very heavy on the caramel malt with a slight warming alcohol at the end that is enjoyable. The carbonation level is on par with other belgian style quads. This is a beer that one bottle or glass will do but it will be a very enjoyable glass. This is one of the better American Quads out there and worth a try.
