COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle. Yet another Quardrupel, but this time somewhat disappointing. Small off-white fizzy head that mostly diminished. Spar lacing. Light particles in flow and color were amber. Aroma was recognizable as a Quardrupel with notes of dry fruit, hint of bread, toffee, liquorish and light vinous. Medium to full bodied with a light alcoholic texture. Flavor was moderated sweet malt with hint of hops bitterness. Finish was short and sweet. Not as powerful as I had hoped, think it needs a bit more punch in the aroma and over the palate, but still a very drinkable Quardrupel.

Bottle: Fiery amber, moderate to small fizzy off-white head, dies quickly, little lacing, no noticeable carbonation.   Alcohol infused rich bready fruitiness that almost seems too cloying and rich.   Very slight diaper or underarm.   Spices are there, but they seem outdone by this huge sweet rich malty breadiness.   Cloyingly sweet start, slight dark pitted fruit, but not like other belgians.   Very rich breadiness.   Sweet malty finish, body is quite big, but this one is moreso sweet and malty instead of dark pitted fruit oriented.   Interesting, but not like other belgians.

Dark orange to amber colored pour, thin off-white head that sticks around for quite awhile. Sweet, malty aroma with some cloves and alcohol. Flavor has some candied sugar notes, a bit of raisins and molasses and alcohol. Not too subtle! 10% ABV is quite evident. The mouthfeel is just a tad thin for a Quad in my opinion. However, served as a good night cap after a cross country flight to Anchorage - found in a combination liquor store/pawn shop in Anchorage.

(22oz bomber) Pours a very clear amber. The nose is spicy and fruity. The taste has a low amount of hops, but this beer is way too sweet with no fruit profile. The caramel is cloying and the alcohol is hot on the finish. This doesn’t taste much like an ABT or really much like beer in my opinion. Not a good example of the style.

This clear reddish-orange beer ooured with a thin beige head and a candy sugar aroma. The candy is also a prominent part of the flavor, along with a lot of spice and carbonation. The finish is actually quite bitter in contrast to the initial flavor. This is a very complex brew, but the flavor elements don’t blend well enough to bring this beer up to the level of the good Belgian quadrupels.

2005 bottle. Pours a very lightly hazy ruby orange/amber with an average creamy light tan head that had some bubbles and left some lacing. Aroma of leather, cherries, dark fruits, Belgian candi sugar, some Belgian yeast and other spices, very sweet toased malts with some nuts, vanilla and oak. Really a lot going on in the aroma on this one. Flavor of dark fruits, vineous, dark candy sugar, surprisingly still had some hop bitterness. A little thinner and actually not as sweet as I was expecting, but I kind of liked that about this one. I remember having a fresher bottle of this a year or two ago before I really started rating and I think the year plus of cellaring helped this one out.

Tap at Churchkey thanks to Travlr. Pours a clear, deeper orange (??) with lots of sticky lace. Looks good for a beer, not very good for style. Vinegary nose with slight moldiness. Big strawberry candy and candi sugar takes over. Taste has a red apple character and loads of sticky sugars. Lots of red fruits and candies. At first I was given this and wasn’t told what it was. I guessed it was some sort of sweet barleywine or old DIPA. Decent stuff..not what I would consider a quadrupel.

Bronzy Coppery Orange. Thin, tan head. Strong apples and cinnamon aroma. Taste of sweet fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, and some ginger. Nice Oily texture gives way to a woodsy, dryish finish. Nice brew, the alcohol is well hidden, but overall seems too sweet. Maybe I drank it too young, I think some age would enhance this nicely.

Draft. Pours amber orange with an off white head. Light Belgian yeasty aroma with a light sweetness. The flavor has Belgian yeast, toast, a light sweetness and light spicy notes. Not bad.

Bomber into an abbey glass. Pours murky brown mixed with blood orange with a small white head that settles into a small layer and ring quickly. The aroma reminds more of a Belgian brown than a quad, malty and rich. The flavor is a bit on the light side, oddly enough, and not quite complex enough. There is some ester, a fair amount of malt, and a dash of dust. High carbonation and a big mouthfeel.
