COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle Color- Paler than other quadrupels I’ve seen. Nose- Sweet, raisins, alcohol evident. Carbonation- low Flavor- malty, dark fruits, apples, alcohol in the fore. Finish- short but sweet Almost seemed like a low hopped barleywine.

dark golden beer with a disappearing head. Sweet aroma of raisins, dark fruit, and some alcohol. Malt, bread and raisin flavor. Sharp and alcoholic. Low on carbonation. A bit dissapointing

Copper to dark amber with a thin off-white head. A slightly vegetal note after the first pour and sniff. Developed into a moderately intense malty and spice backbone. Raisin, black pepper and black cherry notes. Slight resiny earthy hop aroma with a thin aromatic layer of anise candy. Mouthfeel is warming but not the rocket-fuel I imagined it would be. Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. Very similar to a doulbed dubbel (hence the quadrupel?) and could use some age to balance out the profile...though too much age might build up too much vegetal character. Lots of specialty malt is evident with a particular emphasis on special b. A very fine beer, but a little too sweet of a finish for my taste.

Listen when the reverend speaks! This 10% alcohol brew drinks like a beer of 5 or 6% and that is a good thing. Pleasing smell, feel, and taste make this high gravity brew a great choice for when strength matters.

This is the worst tasting substance (much less beer) that I have ever tasted. I passed this around a roomful of beer lovers, and not one could bear the flavor. Nice label, awful beer

Had on tap in large snifter.. Appearance is dark amber and clear with a white lacey head. Aroma is of candi sugar, clove, spices, alcohol sweetness, and esters reminiscent of juicy fruit. No hops in the flavor or aroma.. Tastes very malty, sweet from the candi sugar, malt, and alcohol, clove is present, and some slight phenol is there as well. Also some esters that give it that juicy fruit thing again in the flavor. Here is a very slight alcohol bite. No hop bitterness or flavor. The body is medium-full, rich, with definite alcohol warming and high carbonation. A really well-made beer, but it could be more spicy and complex.

The head was fleeting with medium lacing and a murky body. This is a very particulate beer with a turbid appearance and an amber hue. Aroma wise the initial smell about ten seconds after the pour gave a deep fired cherry accent with medium hop volition that reminded me of preserved fruit. A very pleasing to the palate smoothness with a slick almost waxy texture, in other words it has a medium to light drink-ability. Average carbonation with a stinging finish, meaning the sweetness and the fruit tones were very apparent to say the least. Overall I would say drink it after a meal with some toasted nuts or bread because the beer is very sweet.

Nice frothy head when poured, about 1.5 fingers leaving nice lacing. Sweeter to the tongue than expected. Metallic finish was unexpected but didn’t hamper the experience. Will gladly drink again.

Another night at the shop, another good beer to close with. The Reverend pours a deep copper color with a smooth, fine white head. First impression is the clovelike aroma, perhaps notes of cinnamon; definitely a Belgian nose. Tasting brings about a coating mouthfeel probably from the addition of candy sugar in the mash tun. Nice flavor bordering on the sweet side, almost too sweet. Not a session beer for sure. Would be nice to sip on in front of a fireplace on a cold night.

This is my favorite beer by an American brewer. It’s fruity, easy to drink, has a great, mildly foamy head.
