COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

bottle. 2004. pours a cloudy orange-golden with a ring of white head. the aroma has sweet caramel, chocolate and ends up being quite interesting. well, as expected with Avery the alcohol lingers around in this one too. flavours are pretty solid with plenty of dark chocolate, caramel, and biscuit notes. pretty good.

a dark copper color w/ a nice white head made up of larger bubbles and dissapating quickly. smells of malts and cherries a hint of pepper as well... a nice complex aroma a carbonated, creamy palate that felt great going down. The taste is complex a bit sweet hints of alcohol over overly sweet almost a touch bitter on the tongue almost a bit overpowering in the flavor and not totally in a good way.. it improves a bit w/ temp.. and might be good to let age.

Bottle @ Hotelroom, Denver. Pours clear golden orange, loads of spakling bubbles heading for the surface, small creamy offwhite head. Nose is lots of fruit, bananas up front, caramel, brown sugar, yeast, some spices. Taste is brown sugar, caramel, lightly roasted malts, white pepper and other spices, sweet fruit, bananas, peach, hint of alchohol. Medium to full body, silky creamy mouthfeel, long lasting but soft carbonation. Overall on the sweet side, but good. 301110

Lasting, large offwhite head. Clear copper/amber color. Malty sweet, spicey nose, cinnamony, caramel notes. Med body. Sweet brew, spicey . Alc is well masked. Sweet finish, a little too sweet fer my tastes. Should try to age the sweetness out. Gots potential here.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2008 Bottle. Amber pour, surprisingly clear and with a minimal head. Nice lacing, though. Dried fruits (apricots and strawberries), banana, malt, burnt sugar on the nose. A little dried ginger. Sweet palate (banana pancakes!) with hot alcohol burn. Really not my favorite, but worked well for the quick buzz I was hoping for tonight. That’s sad if that’s all I can say about a quadrupel, particularly from Avery. A value for the price, but there are certainly better quads out there.

Sampled yesterday with BrotherBrando: Poured a dark but cloudy copper colour with a huge white head. Aroma had noticeable alcohol and fruity esters, wheat and caramel notes on the nose. Taste was pleasent, very rich, and creamy with brown sugar and plum notes. A little spice in the finish as well.

Bottle pours an almost clear amber with a thin tan head. Very sweet complex scent, caramel, fruit and spices. Taste is sweet caramel and yeasty with brown sugar notes with a slow burn.

On tap at The Taphouse. Pours a clear amber with an off-white head. Caramel, fruit and a touch of spice in the nose. Medium body and light carbonation. Sweet and surprisingly light taste dominated by butterscotch. Piney hops shine though in the finish and seem to quarrel a bit with the rest of the taste. I don’t see me finishing a bomber of this - glad I got it in a sampler.

Copper in colour. Aroma of alcohol, some fruit and a candy sweetness. Flavour had some malt, caramel sweetness, lots of alcohol. Medium-large body. Finishes with an alcohol bitterness. Pretty disappointing after just having the Allagash 4.
