COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Poured a hazy medium bronze/copper color with a small off white head. Aromas and tastes of caramel, cinnamon, and sugar. Very sweet. Flat watery body. There’s something about this beer that gives me a headache everytime I drink one.

Bomber bottle with a very interseting label. hazzy dark amber with medium head that diminished quickly. Complex sweet fruit aroma. Medium body with smooth texture. Complex full flavor with long sweet finish with a small alcohol bite. The brew was as interesting as the label.

Pours a clean and clear copper mahogany with a thin light tan head with fine lacing. Aroma isn’t particularly complex, but has some sweet caramel maltiness, a touch of pepper and some Belgian yeasty esters. Body starts fairly viscous with appropriate carbonation. Has a nice Belgian malty and candi sugar sweetness throughout with some bready yeast character toward the dry, peppery and fizzy finish. This is fairly well balanced, but the great complexities, especially that of dark fruit, that can be found in a Westy or Rochefort are just bereft here.

Bottled. A reddy brown coloured beer with a minimal off white head. A typically Belgian yeasty candy sugar aroma which appears to provide alcoholic warmth to the nostrils. Boozy and fruity in the mouth. A little alcohol sting. Lots of sugary fruitiness. A decent effort, just wish it were more mellow.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2009 Dark golden grown hue, sweet hoppy aroma, which doesn’t really smell like a Belgian, but it does taste like one. Very strong alcoholic taste, but also has a sweet caramel syrup taste as well. Very spicy and sugary, almost too extreme, with alcohol biting the back of your mouth.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2006 Creamy fig sweetness filling up the sparse roasted malt husks...Underlying berriness resides within amongst the apparent alcohol (which is nonetheless well-masked for the 10%) and fails to give more Belgian-ness to this secular double brown or English Strong Ale...A stout performer which is not true to its billing but which still entertains...
