COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Glowing orange color. Medium head. Aromas are malts, fruits and brown sugar. A full-bodied Belgian Style Ale. The malts are bold, very sweet and fruity. Yeasty, with a hint of spiciness. Its very sweet, perhaps overly so. But, its also very smooth. There are hints of the 10% alcohol, some in its slightly ‘oily’ texture and most noticeable it is warming effect, but it has no alcohol bite. This is a nice sipping beer, once you can get past its sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, tupalev and Dave B - blankboy’s bottle. Clear copper with a smallish white creamy head. Aroma of rosehips, sweet malt, sweet citrus, yeast, oleander and, oddly, as it warms, red licorice - subtle, nice. Taste is salty yet sweet, again crushed rose petals, clementines, light perfumy hops, sweet and mildly spiced, soft and sweet, whispers in your ear and nibbles on your ... nice, but I don’t think quad. Average body - sweet, sticky, cloying mouthfeel, that rose and sweet citrus gets a little annoying after awhile. Really well done, but less sweet please; at least the booze wasn’t that prominent.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Reddish amber w/ almost no head. Banana esters and rotten produce in the aroma. Taste is the same, with thankfully less rot. Alcohol warmth. Slightly off balance.

Really enjoyed this on tap. Has a small tan head and is a dark relatively clear ruby color. Aroma is peaches, raspberry, sweet malts and a little alcohol. Taste is peaches, vanilla and caramel. I found this to be very interesting.

Sampled at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN from a 22-oz bomber. Pours a semi-hazy cola brown brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of dark fruity caramel malt, some raisins, figs, dark pitted fruit and a touch of yeast. Taste is smooth, creamy, medium bodied, with some carbonation and flavors of dark roasted malt, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, and a touch of raisins. Finish is slightly metallic from the high alcohol with a dark fruit and yeast aftertaste. This is one decent winter warmer.

Clear copper color with nice tan head. It pretty much dissipated to nothing with no lacing before long. Belgium yeast, sweet malts and fruitiness was the aroma. The flavor was spicy, peppery, fruity (cherries) and malty with no sense of the 10% ABV. Really easy drinking for a quad Belgium.
