The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Cooper color with a caramel-white, foamy head. It looks great in a glass. Aromas of fruit, sweet malt, sugar, spice and alcohol. Taste is sweet front with malt and fruit followed by spice and bread. It finishes with a warm kick. The sweet sugar lingers for awhile in the mouth.

Poured a dark amber colour with a thin head that left good lacing. Aroma was sweet and full of fruits(cherries, figs, dates) with molasses and light yeast notes. Flavor is rich with the fruits mentioned above with notes of belgian malts, candy sugar, and a bit of alcohol. Medium bodied and fairly smooth with a warm finish.

Bomber. Pours a deep amber, medium slightly off-white head with average retention and lacing. Nose is all kinds of fruit: peaches, cherries, figs, dates, oranges along with some caramelly boozy notes, faint vanilla. Mouth is medium bodied, pretty sweet, candy sugar, dates, dried figs, cherry, vanilla, warm boozy finish. Good beer for a chilly autumn eve here in the Midwest... where I’m watching a hockey game and staring at this stupid cast on my leg.

Bottle @ home. Clear red-brown pour, little white head. Not much head, light strawberry. Pretty sweet taste: brown sugar, some spice. Boozy. Meh, ok.

"the aroma of this one really wasn’t up to par, but otherwise it was a pretty good effort. for a quad, the heavy fig/dark fruit aspect is missing, or a little light, but the flavor is a nice fruity, slightly spicy mix. pours ruby with no sediment, and actually little yeast in the aroma or flavor. a little simple for a quad but still good. a little alcohol in the aroma too, and more in the finish, but still manages to be smooth."
