COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Cooper color with a caramel-white, foamy head. It looks great in a glass. Aromas of fruit, sweet malt, sugar, spice and alcohol. Taste is sweet front with malt and fruit followed by spice and bread. It finishes with a warm kick. The sweet sugar lingers for awhile in the mouth.

Reddish, semi-transparent body, white head, not much retention or lacing. Nice bready dried fruit and caramel aroma, some booze. Taste is sweet, a bit of cola and cocoa in addition to dried fruit and bread. A bit of a thinner palate. Not the best quad, but decent.

Pours a caramel from a bottle, decent off-white head. Aroma of candi sugar, vanilla, boozy bourbon caramel. Flavor similar, maybe some cherry, lots of good Belgian flavor from the malt and yeast. Slightly boozy finish, but doesn’t burn. Very good beer.

Notes from Churchkey Avery Cellar event. Draft->snifter. Amber with moderate eggshell head. Belgian yeast, dough, dark fruit, caramel malt. Can sense the alcohol here. Good.

On tap at the source. Really impressive brewery and tap room. Consumed in 10 oz pour with willyP and wanderkate. Beautiful coppery color with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma gives a sweet impression with some dark fruits. Deep flavor profile on the initial sip. The traditional plum and raisin notes are there along with a healthy dose of sugars. Balance is pretty solid as the sweetness doesn’t overwhelm. Little bit of a drop off towards the end but beginning and middle rival other Belgian quads. Preach on, Avery. Preach on.

Bomber shared by Tim...thanks buddy! Hazy brown pour with minimal head. Strong sweet dark fruit aroma. Taste is not as sweet as I hoped. Still really good.

Avery just never disappoints me. I’m not a huge fan of quads, I tend to enjoy dubbels more. Quads can be too sweet and rich for me. But this one is perfect. It pours the color of strong iced tea, with about as much foam. The aroma has spiced notes, oranges, mild coffee. The flavor adds yams, caramel, apple-butter. It’s sweet, but not overly so. Not extremely rich. The 10% abv is hidden in the smooth malt backbone. Well done.

Bottle share at Evernote. Overall notes of honey, molasses, malt liqour. There’s a touch of something too candy / cherry syrup / artificial here that I didn’t enjoy.

Nice aroma of your typical candi sugar and bananas, but the cherries were a nice touch. Sweet with Belgian hallmarks, yeast, and a little cherry.
