COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Draft at Eulogy. Very hazy brown pour. Foamy tan head that left a lot of lace. Mild dark fruits. Thin maple syrup. Drying earthy hops in the finish. Weak tea. Was hoping for a lot more. Possible this keg is past its prime.

This brew is a gorgeous copper color with a medium off-white head, and the aroma combines hints of sour fruit, bread malts, and booze. Upon sipping, this beer reveals itself as really complex and well balanced. The taste is mildly sweet and slightly sour, and the palate fuses a sour yet warming finish, medium body, slick texture, and a soft carbonation that still leaves bubbles on your tongue.

Pours a nice brownish color, like iced tea, with a thin tan head. Aroma of fruit and spice. Tastes of cherry with a sweet brown sugar hint. Spicy but not over powering. Malty and smooth. Bordering on too sweet. Not bad.

benpickens (365) - Camarillo, California, USA - JUN 7, 2013
Pours a clear reddish brown with a medium porous head that appears only after a vigorous pour. Aromas of fruitcake, raisins, port, molasses, and brown sugar; creamy palate; alcohol very well hidden; sweet finish. Missing something... maybe complexity?

Bottle. Pours fairly clear copper with a small white head that quickly dissipates into some bubbles. The aroma is a low complexity white grape, plum, and booze. The taste has that plum, fig, some sweet dark cherry. A little booze on the finish but not bad at all for the ABV. Not epic but solid.

Sweet malt nose. Lots of candi sugar, dark fruit and molasses. Some bread and spices. Like a fruit cake almost. Alcohol heat on finish. Overall really sweet

A - Pours a cherry amber with a nice collared head. S - Lots of caramel covered barley, raw nuts and brown sugar, T - Sweet and creamy, whipped caramel, brown sugar, hops and a touch of alcohol add peppery spice. Very bready with minor hints of plums and dates. Some alcohol and amaretto/basil on the finish. M - Full thick body, low creamy carbonation, warming. This smells and drinks a lot like a barley wine. The finish wasn’t spectacular and it didn’t really fit into the style. Serving type: bottle 12-06-2011

Bomber pours a clear mahogany/copper color with two-finger off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is primarity dark fruits and sweet malts: lots of cherry, fig, raisin, caramel, and some honey. I missed the Belgian yeast I expected in an Abt/Quad. Some alcohol comes out in the warn and sweet finish. Body is medium to full with low carbonation. Mouthfeel is silky smooth. A strong, enjoyable effort, although short of the greatest in this style.

Pours a dark copper color. Smell is slightly sweet chocolate. Tastes of sweet, roasty malt, cherry, fig. A bit of alcohol on the finish. Nice beer.

Bottles. I distinctly remember the first time I had this beer, probably sometime around in the summer of 2005. Definitely a big, strong, malty beer but not sure I would qualify it has a quad or abt as I think those beers are more distinct to their regions and yeasts and this is just a big mess. Way too sweet, lots of dark fruits, raisins, dark candy sugar, molasses, and booze. Kinda the opposite of a go-to beer for me these days.
