COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Rød øl med meget hurtig svindende skum. Duften er lækker karamelagtig. Smagen er karamel/figen agtig, og meget cremet i konsistensen. Amerikans humle brugt. Varm og lækker (alcohol) og en tør afslutning.

Deep amber pour with foamy white head and lace. Aroma of dark brown sugar, raisins, dates, and a hinto abv. Super sweet caramel malt, brown sugar, and a nice abv warmth. Carbonation is smooth. Finishes with a nice sweet finish and a light bitter. A very nice warmth as well. Nice beer.

Poured a nice orange copper color; a little lighter than expected, but the lack of head retention and only a small, non-lasting head is what brings this one down. Smell is of caramel and dark fruit, some cherries as well. Taste is real nice, starts out with a burnt caramel flavor, toffee, and some dark fruits. I think this may even meld better with age. Mouthfeel is chewy, definitely full bodied with carbonation on the lower side, but still present. Pretty solid, and if I remember correctly, the best United States brewed quad that I’ve had. Certainly worth a try, I think I’ll be picking up a couple to age next time.

[2900-20100610] 650mL bottle. Fruity pear flesh aroma with floral hops. Hazy, brown orange body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Fruity bitter pear hops flavour has a long sweet aftertaste. Full body is quite bitter and boozy. Not 14% but certainly could have been! (Happy anniversary, M&D!)

22 oz bottle. Pours hazy golden color with white head. Sweat aroma of malt and honey. Taste of sweat malt a little alcohol bit at the end.

bomber - pours pure amber, plus 2 shades darker. aromas - fruit (molasses, syrup, woodiness), but also has a ripe fruit component that follows through the flavor on into the finish. the flavors are of ripe, ripe fruits. plums, dates, raisins, dark berries. also, mellow spices hit the finish. kickin beer. highly recommended, two thumbs up, drinability is high, and the depth of character is prevelant.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2007 Bottle. Nose is intense, lots of complexity. Apple juice at first, then alcohol, followed by pears, sugar, and hops. Color is a beautiful golden amber, with a steady thin white head, beautiful lacing, and some dancing carbonation rising toward the surface. Flavor is somewhat disappointing only in comparison with the aroma. It’s much heavier on the alcohol and apples. The palate, though, is the savior of the alcoholic-heavyness. It is smooth and light, but thick and strong.

Bottle. Pours reddish/amber. Carbonation seems light; it isn’t. Smells like apples. Taste is sweet, like caramel with a touch of sour apple. Quick finish. Delightful.

Nice lighter color with good head. Great malty/yeasty aroma with a touch of caramel and subtle spice. There is certainly a yeasty/sugary quality but it is measured and balanced by quiet spice flavors. A well balanced brew which hides its strength quite well, but alcohol is still present. Overall I quite enjoyed this brew.

Golden orange pour with small tan head quickly dissipating away. Aroma of molasses, caramel, apricots and and yeast. Taste is very complex with molasses, caramel, dried sweet fruits, cane sugar and a slight hop finish. Excellent beer!
