COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottled. Dark copper coloured, small beige head. Fruity sweetish aroma. Sweet yeasty, caramellish, hoppy and malty flavour. A bit sticky palate. Sweet caramellish fruity aftertase. Also hints of alcohol all the way through.

It’s a dark amber beer with a modest head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, fruit and spice, and the same is found in the flavour, that has a light caramel sweetness and a limited bitterness. In the finish there is a nice note of coriander. A nice beer 1715.

Bottle (bomber) provided by gnoff. Cloudy amber with a short off-white head. Fruity, peppery, spicy with some burnt sugar and caramel notes. Medium bodied and smooth. Dry finish. Very teasty but not very Belgian.

Draft at San Diego Brewing Company. So the guy at the bar tells me this is a triple. I have seen it around everywhere, but never really looked into it. So I take him at his word. I knew right away that it was way too malty to be a triple. I was actually thinking dubbel. Didn’t seem really like a Quad to me. Still very good. Especially since I love a good dubbel. hehehe. Deep golden amber with a smallish head. Lots of malty aromas. Dark fruits and actaully rather quadish now that I think about it. Malt continues into the flavor. Dark and fruity, and almost no hop bitterness. It was really good.

Pours reddish brown with nearly no head. Aroma full of sugar, cherries, and malt. Syrupy mouthfeel compliments the sweet and fruity taste. Lots of currants and candy sugar in this one. Gets better as it warms, but still keeps the sweet character.

22 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper color. Head was two fingers high and off white with good retention and lacing. Aroma was of fresh malty cereal grain, clove, accented by a hint of banana and caramel. Sweet on the tongue and full bodied. Lots of different flavors to pick out. Cotton candy, clove, cherry schnapps, and more clove. Pretty tasty.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2005 Thin, rapidly-dispersing head. Hazy jewel amber color. Notable for the rosey, floral aroma. The flavor is hoppy, with a hint of apples.
