COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Ah, my first Avery beer. Warms the heart, and the tummy! Most recently, on tap at the Avery 12th anniversary party. Copper colored with white head. Grainy fruity yeast aroma. The taste is very sweet and very rich. Slight ester bitterness, more of a banana creamy finish. Sharp cheddar comes to mind. For all the alcohol it’s amazing how little you taste it. Very well rounded, very very good. Dangerous.

Recommended to me because of my recent infatuation with belgian ales, this definitely did not disappoint. A nice reddish color and a decent head with a fair amount of lacing. For me, as with all belgians, the overwhelming flavor is that of apples. I can drink this in complete comfort. It’s just good. Not quite as complex as a tripel I had a few weeks ago, but with perhaps a better overall flavor.

Dark reddish appearance with an average size head. Taste is very sweet with a pretty strong alcohol overtone. Complex but a little sweet compared to other quads that I’ve been able to try. Surprisingly drinkable, but not the best representative of the style.

Served from tap into a tulip. Pours amber with a one finger white head. Maintains excellent lacing throughout. The aroma was comprised of bananas and slight alcohol. The flavor was of fruit, malt, alcohol, and pear upon swallowing. It was light on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this was an excellent brew. The flavors present definitely mask the alcohol flavor but it is still present. It is scary drinkable which could get you in trouble quickly as it is quite enjoyable as well.

Bottle. Reddish brown, beige head that dissolves into a ring. Aroma: malty, fruity, toffee, vinous. Taste: very malty, sweet, earthy, fruity, toffee, butterscotch, warming alcohol. Full-bodied, moussy. More of a barley wine feel than a quadrupel.

A solid mouth feel with some crisp bright notes swirled in to get the mouth guessing.
