COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle Pours an amber ruby color with a thin diminshed head. Aged 2 years. Still a strong nose of etoh and caramel malt. There are good fruit flavors to be tasted here as well and decent spicyness. I shared this bottle and the sample i got i really enjoyed.

Draught at Oliver Twist. Fluffy off white foam tha goes away fast. The aroma remindes me of caramellized orange peel. The caramell is also dominating the taste, but there is also almond paste. The body is big but the bitterness is low almost not present.

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2006 Pours sparkling amber with a yellow, creamy, decent head with some lasting ability and good lacing. Nose is bold and simple; Belgian fruity esters dominatewith notes like the description notes fitting, caramelized cherries, figs and sweet molasses. Flavor is definately Belgian and candi sweet with the flavor almost becoming too cloying but doesn’t. Notes of plums, toffee, molasses, spiciness (cloves and others, hard to define) and slight notes of banana. Finishes sweet and fairly short with the banana still lingering and candi sugar still present. Palate is medium to full, lively, and somewhat round and sticky. Alcohol is present but not ever overpowering. Certainly interesting and worth a try for all strong Belgian lovers. I wish this one wasn’ t so sweet, but it has some great qualities and is unique among strong Belgians.

Courtesy of Naka. Pours amber/red/orange with thin white head. Nose of brown sugar, caramel, raisin, cherry and fig. Taste is carame and brown sugar with raisin and dates, full mouth feel with nice alcohol flavor and bite. No hops of any sort. I like it. Good beer.

I have yet to be dissappointed by Avery. Their take on a Quad is sweet, but savory. Calming in its strength, it is not easily detected after the first sip. This beer makes me feel good after a bad day...kinda like confession.
