COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2008 I am only recently starting to experience the Avery beers as they just became available in my region recently. Had this one on draft at Smokin Joes in Pittsburgh. Poured a bronze color with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet and citrusy. The flavor is sweet with noted hops, citrus, pineapple, cherry and spice. The finish is spicy and dry.Interesting.

From a 22 oz bottle purchased in West Springfield. MA this poured a rich amber color with a moderate off-white head and nice rings of lacing. Nose is caramel malts and floral hops with a hint of banana. Mouthfeel rich and creamy. Flavor was of malts and hops, with fruits in the background. Somewhat on the sweet side. It hides the alcohol quite well. Very nice brew.

Dark orange colored, little light brown head, Good yeasty and spicy aroma, fruits, caramel and even mild licorice also nicely there. I like this. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even better: nice yeast, spices, fruits, caramel, orange and chocolate there. Smooth palate.

Pour a orange-amber color with a tan head. aroma is of sweet malts, plums, clove, yeast, and spices. flavor is of dark fruit, sweet malt, candied sugar, carmel, molasses, spices, and a some alchool. has a full body and medium carbonation. cosidering the fullness and high alchool, it is acutlly pretty drinkable. overall, a pretty good but not top tier Abt.

From a 22 oz. red foil capped brown bottle with a blurb along the right side of label, sampled at cellar temperature in a chalice. Poured a cloudy amber orange with a foamy, bubbly topped beige head that settled into a thin, bubbly lacing, minimal amount of sticking. Aromas of malted barley, candied sugar and plum and cherry fruitiness, spices and earthy, lemony hops, the alcohol is there, but well masked. Good carbonation and a crisp, dryish, sipping, syrupy smooth full bodied mouthfeel. Lush and delectable tasting, roasted barley mixed with Belgian candied sugar, spicy, plum and dark cherry juicy, an earthy, seedy and citrus hoppiness, soft in it’s bitterness, the alcohol is subtle and warming, an sweet alcohol flavor makes an appearance towards the end and a dryish sweet, earthy spice, malty finish, a good sipping drinkability. A nice quadrupel from Avery, it’s strength kind of sneaks up on you, well worth trying.

This beer has an unassuming presence and a ridiculously somber label, but good flavor, decent palate, pleasant aftertaste. A decent quadruple, worthy of the 87th percentile.

I dont particularly care for colorado beers. This one is an exception. It was very good, a bit sweet for my taste. This beer put me over the edge on a long night of drinking.

1 pt 6 fl oz bottle. Pours slight hazy dark orange with a dense light orange head. Aroma solid pine hoppy with a light fruity note. The flavour starts with the same notes and goes into a sweet sugarish caramel malt flavour first before a more fruity and belgian yeast spiced flavour takes overs. Shows a mild woody note along the way. Hops reappear before the finish and provide a lifting feel to the dense abt flavours. Hoppy and dry towards woody finish.
