COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

An amber quad with low carb and diminutive head. Aroma is actually very fresh for a quad with an almost clean touch to the dried fruit esters and the cara and sugar noters. The flavour is complex but delicate. A fine texture of dried fruits, some spicyness (mostly vague notes of orange and some cloves) and a sexy, nearly dry finish. A fine beer

Strong alcohol and yeast nose. Very sweet: cherries, sugar, toffee. Sticky texture works with all the sugar notes, and the alcohol singes just a little.

Pours a deep gold color with a thin head. Wild aroma of nuts, fruit, and a lot of Belgian yeast. The flavor goes from berries to canned corn. Yeast, malt, hops--they’re all in there in one big mishmash which seems to manifest itself differently in every sip. Alcohol comes through strongly on the somewhat heavy palate.

Pours orange-brown with a nice sized off-white head, aroma of belgian style spices, citrusy fruit, and caramel. flavor is carbonated, citrusy with hints of caramel, as well as alcohol, very smoot and a greatly mixed to gether.

The Reverend was one of the first big beers that I have ever enjoyed. I first drank it about 5 or 6 years ago, when it still had the wax cap covering. I just drank it last night, which was my first time in a long time. It has a beautiful orange color and a nice, sweet malty aroma. What I like the best about the Reverend is that it is very strong and complex, yet it is so enjoyable to drink. There is no harshness at all. I taste dates in the malt, but not overbearing. The hop profile is low, as it should be. This is a sneaky beer, in that you don’t realize that you are drinking a 10% quadruple ale!

sweet candy dark fruit aroma. pours a pale copper, slightly cloudy. very small white head. starts out intensely sweet and malty, then gets dry and a little spicy. the finish is neverending, which is strange for how thin it feels. Nice and complex, but overpoweringly sweet

Dark rich color with a small dense head. Huge beer. Right away I notice the alcohol is not hidden. Aroma give way to a burst of heat and dark fruit and sweetness. Some spice but more noticeable in the flavor. Flavor has more sweetness and a lot of burning heat. Molasses sweetness and some yeast. Nice overall with some fruit complexity.

UPDATED: MAR 19, 2006 bottle. Pours a cloudy mahogany with a disappearing head. Aroma is assertively sweet without being sickening and is accompanied with the complexity of plums, cloves, figs, etc. It all comes together nicely in the flavor also with a dry vinous finish. The alcohol is not detectable. Totally solid take on the style, but doesn’t go above the already high standards for a quad.

22z bottle. Sugary sweetness in the nose. Along with a slight cherry hint and a yeasty, bready, roasted malt nose. Ruby-brownish hue with quickly dissipating head. Thick sugary flavor instantly in the mouth. Then a bitterness that turns into a burnt suger finish.Thick in the mouth with lots of caramel and syrup. Little hop note. Good effervescense and mouthfeel. Nice fruit notes and the residual sugar flavor and aroma complement eachother. Great brew from a great brewery.
