COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

This was quite an interesting beer. The aroma was butterscotch, lemons, and alcohol. It poured a copper color with a rather large head. The flavor was very citrusy and spicy with some pears and apricots present. A very sweet and spicy finished. I enjoyed it.

Nice ruby color, not much carbonation. Aroma is sugary and sweet. Definitely a sticky-sweet flavor predominates. Hops are in there somewhere, but not real noticeable with all the sugary sweetness going on. Really too much as far as the sugary flavor goes in my opinion. It’s ok, but not something I would seek out again.

Red amber ale with no head. Apple cider aroma, slighlty spiced. Porto sweetness with resinous pinhey hops. Rich bodied and delicious. May 2004.

This was definitely the best Quadrupel that i have every had. The sweet sugar that was mixed in with the malting makes this super smooth and drinkable at 10%.

Dark reddish-orange body with a quickly diminshing, white head. Lots of malt and candy sugar in the nose. Kind of reminds me of cotton candy. Tasted rubbing alcohol intially but that faded. The candy sugar is also evident in the flavor of the beer. Somewhat like a barley wine but sweeter. Not as yeasty as I like my Belgians to be but not bad for something not from the Belgian region.

Poured a clear copper color with almost no head. A nice sweet aroma with mainly brown sugar notes too it. Flavor was initially sweet but finished with a bready-alcohol mix. Carbonation was low, body seemed thin for this style.

12/14/02: bottle. good amount of creamy head, which diminishes quickly, leaving minimal lacing. cloudy, yeasty smelling- but not as yeasty as most belgians. light, golden honey colour. lots of carbonation. a little bit hoppy, definite hints of honey. Clean finish.

The aroma on this is sweet and cloying, as is its mouthfeel. Its palate is complex enough and full-bodied, but there are lingerings of bitter alcohol that do not make for the most pleasantness imaginable. On the whole, pretty solid brew, though also quite powerful and (perhaps overly) sweet.
