COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2003 WOW! Deep copper in color with dark red on the fringes. The nose is enticing. Toffee, sugar, and orange. The taste is like a thinner EKU 28, but with a peach or nectarine splash in the mix. The alcohol is there but not overwhelming. Smooth texture in the mouth. Just slides down easily. Some spice but it's not like a standard Belgian Strong. Great beer! Recommended!

Much better than the one on tap (also 1 year old) at the Falling Rock at GABF time (02). Seems to have aged well. Smooth rounded sweetness but surprisingly drinkable for a 10% abv beer. Luckily I have another one.

Listen when the reverend speaks! This 10% alcohol brew drinks like a beer of 5 or 6% and that is a good thing. Pleasing smell, feel, and taste make this high gravity brew a great choice for when strength matters.

bomber. very solid belgian style beer from one of my favorite breweries - avery. Really, they do not disappoint. This quadrupel style pours a deep red color with a tiny bit of head. Very sweet, sugary, molasses aroma coming off the glass. Wonderfully complex on the palate with spiciness on the front of the tongue, rich fruit tones, and a well balanced finish that leaves you wanting more. I think this one deserves a higher overall rating.... I give it an A.

better than expected. redder than expected. very sweet. very stern. settles in hard like a good swig of red clay. i like this. will buy it again. we bought it in a big bottle and poured it in little round wine glasses. that seemed fitting, if not perfect. perhaps i should brag more on my choice of serving glass than the actual beer. but the beer is why we’re here. so, buy it, ya know. i like it.

Nice amber color in my glass. One finger head that leaves a slight film on top of the liquid. Slightly decent lacing. BIG maltiness. Very sweet malty nose. Sweet candy sugars. Butterey, yeasty bread. Light citrus and banana notes. Quite abit more mellow than I expected, but that is not a bad thing. Very nice caramel notes. Apple and banana notes. Sweet malt flavor. Big yeasty bread profile. Slight spiciness on the finish. The alcohol bite I expected at 10% is not here at all. Feels very creamy in the mouth, yet still smooth and drinkable. Almost velvet-like. Drinking several bottles of this in a session would be easy. The drawback is that with 10% ABV, you won’t remember doing it.

Fantastically crimson with a cloudy pour and wispy head. Its aromas are not unlike strawberry, wheat, and honey. The actual flavor of this beer is rather tart with piquant, toasty notes that linger. The Reverend would pair nicely with apples and a younger raw milk gouda to offset the sweetness.

Bottle. Pour was golden brown with a nice aroma of fruit, sweet malt, caramel, light toast and spice. Flavors were well blended and on the sweeter side with a nice nutty malt character, medium fruity ester notes, and a nice alcoholic finish. Very well balanced and a nice beer to drink anytime. This is worth a try.
