Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Very overt belgain yeast - especially strong are the dried flower and fig or currant. I was surprised at just how compact this beer seems, a very dense beer that sits really well on the palate. I wasn’t as blown away by the candy sugar as I thought I would be, but the alchohol is definitely present here. A surprisingly good drinking beer.

22 oz. bottle from Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton. Pours a cloudy ruby brown color with a small beige head. Aroma of raisins, cherries, caramel, candy sugar, Belgian malts, molasses, mild spices, and roast. The flavor follows suit really well, a smooth balance of all of the above. Syrupy mouthfeel, sweet and malty. Medium bodied, with minimal carbonation. Hides the 10% ABV well. Not bad, but not a top-tier Abt.

Simple appearance, but serious alcohol presence. Fat, peppery, apricot, spice and muscat grape. Wonderfully well knit but could smooth with age.

Good attempt at a quad. Doesn’t quite get to the quality of some of the good belgians. Clear, not as dense as most other quads. The flavor was good, clove and a slight sweetness. Not a bad beer as an alternative to the more expensive belgians.

Dark rich color with a small dense head. Huge beer. Right away I notice the alcohol is not hidden. Aroma give way to a burst of heat and dark fruit and sweetness. Some spice but more noticeable in the flavor. Flavor has more sweetness and a lot of burning heat. Molasses sweetness and some yeast. Nice overall with some fruit complexity.

Pours a deep copper into the glass with a slightly off white head. Aroma is belgian trappist yeast all the way. A bit of bubble gum in the flavor along with a rich sweet malt. Some spiciness in the finish. Nice effort from Avery.

A bottle at least three years old, courtesy of my father, also a reverend. Lots of candy sugar and molasses in the aroma. Taste is a bit barnyard but that might be the age. Sugar, cherry, alcohol, and some caramel. Not bad.

Bottle. Poured an orange hue with a fluffy yellow head. Nose is sweet with apricot notes and candied sugars, with a hint of the abv. Decent depth of flavors, but not a huge quad. Some fruit notes, with belgian yeast flavors. . Lots of sweetness, and a pretty big alcohol bite. Could use some time. A decent take on the style, but not quite there.

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Pours amber with a thick tan head. Aroma of fig, raisins, barley, roasted malts, and earth. Full bodied with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Good quad.
