undsioux7 (472), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Jul 16, 2006 Very clear light copper color with very little off white head. Reminded me of a zinvendel wine. Aroma of fruit wine, malt, and sugar. A lot of the suger taste comes through with a little wine and that trademark belgian sweetness at the end. Decent but not my style.
Acknud (584), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Aug 19, 2008 Amber pour with a small head. Big bold aroma and taste. Aroma of malt, molasses, alcohol. Some fruits noted in taste. Alcohol hits you over the head! robforbes (694), Bremerton, Washington, USA Aug 18, 2008 pours a clear red-copper with a small light tan head that goes away quickly, not much lacing.
smell is oats, hay, earth, nuts, light spice.
taste is quite different, oily, thick, somewhat sweet, wheat, burnt toffee, malt. ghawener (667), San Salvador, El Salvador Aug 17, 2008 At RateBeerians Tasting. Bottle: Religously good. Bold, complex, well rounded, ABV well hidden. Be careful. BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 17, 2008 Excellent, one of the better bigger beers and also one of my favorites from Avery. Dark brown in color, viscious in the glass, and a very potent nose. Alcohol has a presence throughout this one which detracts and it is a little too sweet and inconsistent from bottle to bottle, but I still enjoy the beer. Good for an American take on the style, but is nothing when compared to the finer Belgians. Ramenen (333), San Salvador, El Salvador Aug 17, 2008 Thanks to ghawener. Pours a dark brown with a big tan head, nice lacing. Medium bodied, nicely balanced, sweet and spicy, toffee and cloves.
