Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Very clear light copper color with very little off white head. Reminded me of a zinvendel wine. Aroma of fruit wine, malt, and sugar. A lot of the suger taste comes through with a little wine and that trademark belgian sweetness at the end. Decent but not my style.

Amber pour with a small head. Big bold aroma and taste. Aroma of malt, molasses, alcohol. Some fruits noted in taste. Alcohol hits you over the head!

Excellent, one of the better bigger beers and also one of my favorites from Avery. Dark brown in color, viscious in the glass, and a very potent nose. Alcohol has a presence throughout this one which detracts and it is a little too sweet and inconsistent from bottle to bottle, but I still enjoy the beer. Good for an American take on the style, but is nothing when compared to the finer Belgians.

Thanks to ghawener. Pours a dark brown with a big tan head, nice lacing. Medium bodied, nicely balanced, sweet and spicy, toffee and cloves.
