daalamar (403), bardstown, Kentucky, USA Aug 28, 2006 Have had this one a few times, and recieved a bottle from Ross (thank you) and finally decided to rate it. Deep amber color with a moderate white head. Aroma is sweet, slightly spicy with hints of earthy fruit. Flavor is massivly sweet, layer on top of layer of varying sweet flavors followed with a quick alcohol burn which is accually welcomed to clense the sticky sweetness. Needs to find a balance somewhere, but if you like over the top sweet malty beers, this is your cup of tea...errr beer.
ChainGangGuy (1690), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Nov 20, 2008 Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, orangey-amber body with a well-formed, light beige head.
Smell: Toasted nuts and bread followed by a distinct yeastiness and notes of sugar and alcohol coated fruits.
Taste: Sweet, bready maltiness with a caramel and honey sweetness jacked up by plenty of candi sugar. A tad yeasty. Peach schnapps soaked fruit flavors of fig and dried cherries. The tiniest pinch of nutmeg. Spicy hops with a medium, resilient bitterness that joins the various other flavors bouncing around the palate. Very faint wood component. Finishes sweet, fruity, and quite warming.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Slight stickiness to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A fine, respectable attempt at the style, but comes up a bit short when stacked against the superior Belgian examples. Still though, it is an enjoyable sipper from the good folks over at Avery. timsilvia32 (285), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Nov 20, 2008 Orange pour, hefty white head. Uh oh, very floral aromas, some hops, characteristics of white ales. Overly lively in the mouth and a bit thin. Too much light red fruits, citrus, hop bitterness. To me this was just not a quad. No molasses, malt of any sort, raisin, doughiness. Similar to most Belgian double and tripels that I do not care for. mwelsh13 (225), Maryland, USA Nov 2, 2008 12 oz bottle pours a deep golden color with orange highlights/ Sweet aroma with some fruit in there. Sweet and thick body that fits the style. islay (409), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 27, 2008 22 oz. bomber, c. late 2006 to early 2007. Consumed on 10-11-08. Pours a bright, hazy, light amber to copper color with a small amount of beige head. Sweet, sour, floral aroma that reminds me of sour candy. Tart, pungent smell. Very sweet flavors of apricot, candy, rotten apple, white grape juice, and Riesling wine. One of the sweetest beers I’ve ever had. Dry aftertaste. Unique taste. Medium body. Fizzy in the palate. This is a weird beer. I’m glad I tried it, but I can’t call it “good.” bearlybrewed (16), Colorado, USA Oct 16, 2008 Copper colored with light carbonation. . The aroma is nice but a liittle alcoholy. Medium to heavy in the mouth. Over sweetness from the candy sugar is a little much. OK..probably will pass if given a choice.
