COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pours out a clear, deep copper with a small, short-lasting white head. Sweet, fruity nose, with a bit of wood. First taste is a bit cloying... only somewhat malty, and sweetish. Aftertaste is pure alcohol and spritziness. The palatte should be chewier for the gravity. A little disapointed for such a big bear.

Aroma is green grapes, spices and a hint of big sweetness. The flavor is Belgian yeast, grapes/green grapes, malts, sugar and a mix of medium/increasing sweetness and warming alcohol in the finish.

Bottle (22 oz). Pours ruby-brown with thin light tan head that dissipates quickly; minimal lacing. Nose of cherries with plum notes. Cherry and caramel with some plum notes. More plum and cherry skin along with warming alcohol in the long, mouthcoating finish. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 ounce bottle. Mahogany brown pour has a small creamy beige head that disappears quickly. Brandy-like aroma has notes of cherries and brown sugar. The flavor follows the nose, with additional notes of vanilla and golden raisins. Sweet malty goodness dominates the palate. Rich and warming with complex herbal hops appearing in finish. This is a wonderful brew, smooth and inviting.

Originally rated on 7/25/08. A deep amber body with a mid sized white cap, that left good lacing on the glass, decent carbonation. Slight aromas of rasins, spices and oranges. The flavor was o.k., the sweetness was all that really stood out, i was expecting a little more. the alcohol was well hid, and it had a good mouthfeel. Overall it was worth a try but i probably wont buy it again.

Judgment Day is upon us and Avery’s The Reverend has come to proselytize for the virtues of yeast. That divine organism which gives new life to the rotting via blessed fermentation. Look to the syrupy brown body and the tan head. Smell the caramel, butterscotch, alcohol-saturated cherry, candy-like Belgian sugar, molasses, and brown sugar. Can your soul remain unmoved in the presence of dark bread flavors with an abundance of rich malts and dark fruit notes. Will you drink of this cup?
