COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

Thick, red-black opaque body with substantial light-tan head. Notes of cherry, brown sugar, barley, faint smoked sea salt. I’m fortunate that I found this now retired brew!

Pours thick and black with almost no head. Big chocolate malt, roasted malt, wheat, and port aroma. Smooth thick chocolate malt roasted malt taste with an after dinner drink smoothness reminiscent of port. Finishes nice and dry, this ages very nicely.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one at his recent tasting. Pours a deep mahogany with a thin off-white head. Rich malt aroma, some banana. Sweet dark caramel overwhelms the flavor, but is good none the less. Good, with a full bodied, smooth delivery and finish.

Sampled at Stevofest 08, courtesy of Suttree. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma of banana esters and dark wheat. Medium to full bodied. Flavor of dark wheat malt, raisen, banana bread, and a hint of tobacco. Lacks some balancing residual sweetness (quite a surprise from Avery). Some alcohol detected on the finish. Not a bad weizenbock, but not as good as Scheider Aventinus.

Courtesy of Stevo at Stevofest. Clear brownish red or mahogany. with a nice beige head. Fruity- apples, I think - and rum, plus a little cherry in the aroma. Flavor is rye-ish, plus some fruit and some subtle chocolate, as well.

Very dark brown body with some ruby highlights at the edge. The head is yellowish khaki. The aroma is chocolate covered cherries with some cough syrup. There is some honey character. The taste is milk chocolate with some light prunes in the background. There is some noticeable alcohol in the cough syrup finish. Something I expect from Avery. Man, this is a biig beer that slaps you in the face.

glennmastrange (1547) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JAN 6, 2008
Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread, toasted and mild coffee, light notes of perfume and earth for the hops and yeast, with raisin and a faint spice smell in the background. Head is small and wispy with a yellowish white color. The head is fully diminishing and has no lacing. Color is a dark brown. Flavor is heavily sweet and lightly acidic to start and finishes moderately sweet, lightly acidic and bitter, and both sour and salty. Palate is medium to full, creamy almost syrupy and has a lively carbonation. It finishes metallic, lightly astringent and moderately alcoholic. Sweet and a bit of a thin feeling at the end of each sip, a some unwanted aftertastes were downfalls, but still a good drinker.
