COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2007 The head is big and beige. Dark brown, almost black with a little deep reddish brown. Something off and tinny in the aroma. Coffee and tanned leather aroma. Caramel and burnt coffee flavor. Some fruit in the taste...maybe apricot. Goes down warm. The sweetness seems to come from unfermented sugars, and not in a good way. Medium/heavy bodied beer. That tinny smell catches my nose with every drink, very distracting.

Super caramel coffee vapors floating towards me. This black mystery mix of Colorado and Bavaria is quite interesting. Makes me wish for munich.

Bottle. Dark and clear, with a nice one inch tan head that fully develops after pouring. Rich, deep malt aroma, with alcohol emerging from the blend of coffee and licorice. Heavy and sweet, with a light wheat flavor over the licorice and malt. A little heavy on the malt, for a weizen.

Pours amber brown with a miserly head that is off-white and patchy. The nose is of lots of bready sweet malts, some fruit, very little in the way of hops and the beer has aged to the point where there is not much alcohol in the nose. The flavor is cloyingly sweet, over a thin body with some shockingly strong esters, some more doughiness, and enough fusel alcohol to knock you flat on your ass. These big beers from avery will give you a son-of-a-bitch hangover, and they don’t even taste good. I’m having trouble telling them apart. Not even close to being in the same league as the amazing Aventinus.
