COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

Bottle courtesy of SS: Poured a dark black color weizenbock with a medium foamy head with average retention but good lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt is pretty enticing with some light clove note also noticeable. Taste of sweet caramel is a bit overpowering and hides the clove aspect of the beer which would have been enjoyable. Alcohol is slightly detectable but I had worst and beer is not fully filtrated which I ma grateful for. Overall, I would say that this is not the best of weizenbock but a very good effort nonetheless from a brewery that sometimes leave me puzzle.

Very dark beer with deep red glints when held up to the light. Creamy tan head that shrinks to a whispy film. Sour grain nose. Rich mouthfeel with wheat lightness. Tastes of sour berries, maple, vanilla, oak, molasses and noticable alcohol. There was an underlying sourness that faded as it warmed. I’ll have to try another bottle to see if that sourness was supposed to be there.

Dark brown with a decent head which fades fairly quickly. Aroma is of alcohol and some dark fruit and candy sugar. Flavor is primarily malt with some fairly strong sweetness and a slight alcohol bite. Fairly nice beer and not overpowering in alcohol like some of Avery’s other high gravity beers.

[Bottle from Beermouth tasted with the hop-bros at Jess’ cosy inn.] Very dark malted and sweety germanlike wiessbucker, but where is the wheat? Not what I had expected.

Bomber obtained from the Beer Swap 2.0. Clear dark brown with a thin beige head. Toasty nuts and wheat in the nose, a slightly burnt malt aroma. Malty caramel flavors and only a touch of banana to hint at the wheat. Seems closer to a doppelbock. Whatever. Nice.
