COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

This thing held up well. pours out a darker brown color with a beige head. aroma was sweet and malty. Flavor had wheat and alcohol all though it, though it wasnt terrible by any stretch of the means.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2006 750ml bottle via Arctic Solutions. Pours a dark Marhoganey brown/almost black with a chalky beige head. Love the aroma with notes of Vanilla, Toffee, caramel, molasses and plums. And i can taste all of those in the first drink. Full bodied moutfeel, chewy finish. Lots of roasted chocolate malts and Licorice in the bittersweet aftertaste. Alcohol is there in the end as well, but not overwhelming. AWESOME.***************11/17/06 rerate-original score was 9/4/10/5/18...I am not nearly as impressed almost 3 months later. Taste is molassess, toffee, raisins, berries. Very sweet at first but with chalkyfinish. Reminds me a bit of a stronger version of Boss Kozlak but sweeter....

chestnut color with amber highlights. creamy tan head with four large dimples. aroma is dark rum, estery over-ripe bananas, and a little dried fig. flavor sharp banana with a milder version of the usual avery fusel bite. this time it’s just a nip. while others think this is a lesser avery brew, I like that it’s not another vodka-beer. a little blackstrap molasses, and a dryish yeasty alcohol finish that isn’t too hot. astringent aftertaste.

22 oz bottle: Deep brown w/a lasting light beige head. Initial aroma is wheat, clove, and alcohol with hints of banana and chocolate. Lots of solventy alcohol. Medium toasted malt, but very little dark fruit otherwise. Lightly nutty after it warms. Well balanced overall w/ a dry finish. Alcohol estery fruitiness throughout, wheat malt with a light clove spice. Slight banana ester and chocolate flavor. Finish has a light clove and wheat/toasty malt flavor that lasts along w/ a bit of alcohol estery flavors, and a bit of plum fruitiness, but it’s light. Warming alcohol, dry m/f from alcohol, and medium body w/ medium high carbonation. Overall, except for the alcohol presence, an enjoyable beer. I wish I had this out at the campfire last night instead of my Goose Island Nut Brown Ale.

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. I didn’t see a freshness date, but that doesn’t mean much. This beer is very, very fresh. Poured out a dark chocolate brown, with red highlights around the edges. It has a decent mocha colored sticky head on it. It leaves a decent lacing down the sides of the glass also. Aromas are of toffee, caramel wheat malt, slightly roasty also. Flavors are incredible. Caramels, toffees, malts, brown sugar, cookie dough, with a hint of raisins also. Thick, rich body, chewy texture & mouthfeel. Almost a meal in a glass. Alcohol is well hidden underneath all those malts. I think I detect a decoction mash here gang. Just enough hops to balance the sweetness of the malts. Hersbrucker or Hallertau hops in the mix. Damn good beer overall. Best effort from Avery in awhile. Make this a regular offering, guys. I’m impressed.

Dark brown small beige head. Completely off the style of being a weizenbock main flavors are chocolate , caramel and crystal malts. Some banana faint in the background along with a nutty toasted malt flavor but this was pretty much a dopplebock with weizen yeast, not bad but not a weizen bock either.

This was an interesting beer. The color is quite dark for a weizenbock (more like a dunkelweizenbock). The aroma smells sweet, with a little wheat aroma, and some roasted flavors. The flavor is surprisingly "dark" tasting - interesting caramelized sugars, roasted bitter flavors - uncharacteristic of traditional weizenbock. It is quite malty sweet and not particularly wheaty tasting. The yeast also does not smell or taste like traditional weizen yeasts. A very intriguing beer - it was very good (though not what I expected from the style). It is also quite strong (though the alcohol is well hidden in the flavor).
