COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

Pours a warm reddish clear brown black with a greyish tan head of small even bubbles. The nose is sweet and lightly alcoholic. A bit of roast, fruity esters. Dark malt character. A bit of chocolate, largely clean. Creamy full mouthfeel, rather pleasant. Rather substantial, not watery, nice and creamy. The flavor is in line with the nose. Big ass malt sweetness ala Avery. The alcohol is Avery also. A bit too sweet, but that’s not my main problem. Diacetyl. Creamy dark fruit, alcohol, fruity esters. This is really like a weizen bock on crack. The sweetness toned back and the alcohol reigned in and this could be a nice enough beer. A bit of banana, alcohol, and bread in the finish. Enjoyable enough, but I’m happy to split the bottle!

Pours a deep brown with barely any head but what is there is of-white and loosely knit. The aromas are heavily malty with bready notes, some fruity bubblegum esters and a big wallop of fusely alcohol. The body is med heavy with pretty dead CO2. The flavors are of bready malts, rotting bananas, and oh my GOD alcohol. Similar to other Avery "Big Beers" this is just swimming in a pool of its own fusel heat. Not a big fan at all. Are we really getting to the point on this site that all you need to get a good score is brew an over the top beer?

this was a really cool beer. a very dark malty weiss beer. Had a solid rich flavor. A little too much alcohol in the taste.

This beer looks awesome. At first taste, it’s really flavorful. Some banana and nut flavors are present throughout. For some reason, I got a very sour finish with this one. Not terrible, but overall, it didn’t do that much for me.

This beer pours a dark almost black brown with a small black head. Lots of coffee and roasted malts in the smell and flavor. This is a very well crafted beer! Cheers!

22 oz. bottle. Dark translucent ruby with a small light brown head. Mild alefruit, caramel, and fruity esters in the aroma. Mild toastiness with and spicy and fruity ester component. Ruddy chocolate flavors emerge in the finish with a lasting sweet alefruit. Mouthfeel is heavy, somewhat chewy.

I had this at the July Comet Cafe "beer school" in Milwaukee. It was a red-brown color with an inconsistent head. The beer had a grape-y aroma like a merlot (not like a cabernet). Flavor was more sour grapiness with some smokiness wihich surprised me a great deal. Mouthfeel was pretty ordinary.

Pours a dark brown that looks red in the thinner parts. Head formed well initially but dissipated quickly, while the lacing remained the entire time. Aroma was yeasty and raisiny, with a bit of a smokey malt quality. Flavor was similar, but a little roastier than the aroma suggested, with more dark rye bread flavors too. The carbonation was a tingly, but that’s how the wheat beers are it seems. It mellows over time. The mouthfull was plenty thick, about as much as a beer like this should be. Overall, I think the yeasty and spicy flavors were slightly too dominant, but this beer was still very nice.
