(Bottle 65 cl) Clear, reddish brown with a beige head. Vinous, alcoholic aroma. Quite full-bodied with sweetish notes of dried and overripe fruit. Somewhat sweet malt and some accents of wood. No real bitterness but quite some alcohol in the finish. Quite delicate. 061006

22 oz bottle. Poured a clear, deep garnet with a short-lived cap of yellowy-beige head. Nose was rich and malty.. with dried cocoa, elderberries, peppery spices, and wheaty banana esters were all in there... along with woodsy, earthy, and leafy notes... nicely complex. The flavors were equally-exciting... with rich and sweet malts throughout (cocoa, spices, berries).. accented by wheaty/banana-ey tart notes and a woody presence. The finish was long and sweet.. and a fine culmination for the drink. The alcohol presence rose as this warmed, but the brew’s balance maintained. Great stuff!

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, mds and tupalev, my bottle. Deep clear mahogany-ruby with an average creamy tan head. Roasty dry yeasty aroma, apple cores, mild winter spices, very light floral hops - has a lovely burnt malt character, makes me think "winter." Taste - burnt caramel malt, chocolate and nut roastiness, hoppy and yeasty, hints of plums and prunes - long dark finish, bitter and caramelized. Thick, syrupy body, surprisingly light alcohol - long, bitter roasty finish. Really nice, like a burnt dubbel.

I expected a lot more from this beer. I have been impressed by Avery’s other releases, but this failed to meet my expectations.
Appearance - I was really excited by the appearance of this beer. The dark reddish brown color was very attractive, and there was a little bit of frothy head as I poured. The head did not lace the glass, however.
Aroma - Malt odors prevail, while fruit and alcohol seem to be there.
Taste - The wheat and fruit give this beer a sweet taste with a slight bitterness. It was hard to place the taste. As the bottle says, its a Weizen Doppelbock. There are thI guess the weizen countrered thoe sweet tones of a weizen, but the malty tones of the doppelbock. It was very drinkable, but I doubt I’d buy another one for myself.
Mouthfeel - This beer was very thin and dry. For such a high alcohol content and being a doppelbock, I expected a thicker feel.
Drinkability - This beer should be shared. 750 mL of a high ABV beer is a lot for one person. After 500 mL, the beer begins to sit heavy. I doubt that I would have another one for myself.
All in all, this is a pretty good beer. I was expecting more, since I am a huge fan of Bell’s Consecrator Doppelbock. However, the weizen tones made for an interesting experience. This one is worth a try. If nothing else, it’s an excellent way to start your evening.

Thanks to egajdzis for this...
Appears a dark brown with a red hue around the edges and a small tan head that slowly fades out. Small amounts of lace are left as streaks around the glass.
Smell is of chocolate, bready dough, nuts, black grapes, plums, bananas, and a slight hint of cloves and black pepper.
Mouthfeel is smooth, fruity, full of the wheat base, making for a medium body and drinkable Weizenbock...yes, should be just called a weizenbock b/c it’s not lagered and it has a wheat base that has been fermented with an ale strain. They did a nice job with it though, whatever they want to call it.
