COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

Bottle from Super Saver. Dark brown/ruby pour with minimal head. The aroma is big banana, roasty charred malts, some brown sugar, nuts, bazooka. One of the biggest banana smells of all time here, folks! The taste is roasty burnt malts with a lot of figs, banana, some brown sugar and chocolate, and some nutmeg. It never gets sweet and stays on the dry side of the scale, and the palate is on the dense end and gets a tad hot as it warms. There is a slight discombobulation of the flavors in this as I get to the last dregs that forces a minor deduction. Not bad, but Avery has set the bar so high that this one let me down a bit. Still, a nice rendition of a style that we really need to see more of.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a beige/light brown head. Sweet, malty, dark fruit aroma. A bit cloying. Flavour is a delicate blend of sweet dark fruits, subdued hops and a remote roasted note. Liquorice finish with slight wine-like notes and a bit of alcohol thrown in. Lingering grassy/apple note. A nice beer, even if I found these types a bit on the heavy side. 18-10-09.

bottle - Pours dark brown with an aroma of malt, yeast, and banana. The flavor pretty well matches the aroma with some alcohol thrown in mainly in the finish. It goes down easy. This is a very tasty beer and worth trying.

(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 10 Aug) Colour is very dark brown with ruby notes, short off-white head. Nose is fruity and spicy with dried fruit (figs, raisins?), chocolate and cherries (a bit like a Belgian dubbel actually). Taste is fruity with lots of dried fruit (a distinct hint of dates), prunes, marzipan, dark rye bread and wild berries. Slightly sweet, smooth finish with some wheat character. Complex but in great balance. Lots of personality and very nice indeed.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2007 Pours a dark brown, with a medium sized fizzy head. Kind of a grainy chocolate aroma. Flavors of bananas, some chocolate, wheat bread, a little caramel, and an alcohol finish. Little hops to balance the brew. A decent beer.
