COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

Bottle at KØ07. Sweet raisin aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Very peppery flavour, good and with nice raisin notes. Quite good.

Bottle pours a clear deep brown. A small light tan head. Aromas are chocolate and wheat bread. Sweet like licorice and tootsie rolls. Easy on the hop bitterness as expected with a\some dark fruitiness as well. Slightly alcohol and a bit fumy at the end. Finishes smooth ans soft. Nice.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and MDS, courtesy of Harry. Decent aroma, roasty sweet, liquorice, spice. Black, foamy head. Really rich malt taste, very sweet, a little boozy. Very drinkable. Brown sugar notes round off this very tasty brew.

Pours a dark ruby color with a thin but lasting tan head. Brandy-like aroma. Brandy in the taste as well, along with dried fruit, chocolate and coffee. Alcohol not too present in the taste, but assertive warmth after the swallow. Very interesting and delicious, but I would say it’s more of a barleywine than a doppel.

Bottle: Malty aroma with chocolate, caramel, banana, raisin, roasted grain, and wheat. Alcohol is apparent but not overbearing. Pours a dark somewhat transparent brown with faint red hilights. Moderate beige head lasts a minute or so. Starts with some light chocolate and smokey grain flavors. Hints of maple syrup and toffee. Moderate banana in the middle with some plum. A slight wheat tanginess comes into play just before the finish with an increased chocolate presence as well as yeast and light alcohol in the finish. As it warms the alcohol is more noticeable and borders on being a little too much at times. Very good, but the alcohol started to wear on me a little. Curious to see what happens as the alcohol has a chance to mellow with a little time.

This reddish-brown ale poured with a modest tan head, eliciting a brown bread aroma. The flavor is surprising and unique - toffee and caramel with a licorice finish and a lingering alcohol burn. This is not like any other doppelbock I have had.

Tons of grape aroma. Dark dark amber color - almost brown. Nice smooth palate. Little alcohol flavor as this one warms up. I know that’s a big surprise from Avery(tongue in cheek). This is good and I’m not usually a big bock fan. Lots of flavors but in all honesty I’m unable to seperate them from one another. They blend together nicely.

This beer is a quality effort, and I don’t regret the purchase in any degree. I was just expecing a little bit more. Though it was highly drinkable and enjoyable I would have hoped for a little bit more complexity out of Avery. This is the first beer of their’s that I have tried and I will certainly try more, but I was hoping that they would have tried to go the extra mile and make this brew an exceptional weizen bock.
